    I got mine off without any tools to replace the whole motor unit/wiper arm, you have to rock it, pretty ****** hard, I'd advise what byzan suggested and wrap it in a rag for 10 minutes first. - was scared of shattering the glass etc but it did come away.

    Not sure how good it is to you now, but you can buy a Bung for the A3 to fill that hole, it just pops in and looks smooth like this on the Fleabay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322144861550 There are cheaper ones, just search for De-wiper bung - Might be worth having a look anyway.

    I don't think i took the rubber seal out on mine? just took of the wiper arm, removed the wiper motor and pulled the spline through, then in reverse, put the new spline through, clip it to the car and tighten the bolts?     I think i'll do the same DJ, I'll try some vinyl wrap whilst it's on the car, try and cut it very gently with a Stanley once it's on, then touch over with some clear lacquer very kindly borrowing a nail varnish brush. - I'll post the outcome at some point lol.
