Hi everyone
I have just put a deposit down on an S3 to be held until I can go to view it, is there anything I should be looking out for on the 57reg 8p model? I will as apologize in advance for possibly posting in the wrong place.

Welcome to Audi-sport.net. I have moved your post into the 8p section

In addition to the info Davey has posted, it is down to you having a good look at the car as it is 13 years old now.
A full service history is essential and I would want annual servicing rather than longlife.
I would be having a good listen to noises as things like the rear differential can be pricey. Ask that the car is not started before you get there and have a listen for a rattling cam chain on initial start up.
All mechanical issues can be fixed at a cost and there are specialists who can sort anything out. Audi will not change the Haldex filter but the independents can do this as well as the Haldex oil change.
Find out if it is tuned and if any parts have been modified.

Hi I believe it to be completely standard apart from a ram air filter.
What would the cost of a haldex oil n filter change roughly be , I like up in Orkney so any garage you ask for something out the ordinary they'll just rip the **** out of it.

The parts can be ordered from AKS Tuning and you can ask your garage if they can cope with the job and give you a quote for labour.

No more than £70 for the Haldex filter and oil - any garage charging more than an hour of labour would be taking the mick.
Assuming it's the gen 4 Haldex, they will need VDCS or equivalent to run the Haldex pump in order to push out the filter.

Ok guys well I bought the car for half the advertised price because when I test drove slight hum from from haldex system (with thanks to you guys info) I've discovered to be a gen 2 system, passenger wheel bearing was shot, rear passenger calliper was binding. things that need doing will be a service of the haldex because it's low on oil because the shaft seals have gone (unsure of the cause of this) and I suspect a clutch bearing? Or transmission input shaft bearing? Slight noise when when foot is off the clutch but when clutch is pressed down noise stops.......but I'm hoping I can sort all this as I have some spare cash thanks to basically stealing it from the guy, other than the problems I've mentioned the engine itself purrs like a kitten....maybe a slight happy sound coming from the fuel pump area ....so I've ordered a cam follower from Cardiff Audi off eBay £38.99 says it's genuine so I hope so.... I've also ordered the shaft seals and haldex oil...and I will try and do it myself, what could possibly go wrong

Binding rear caliper is pretty common on these but a straight forward fix.

All things Haldex, whether it's the filter, oil or pump can be purchased from https://www.haldexrepairs.co.uk/product-tag/audi/. The Haldex is at the rear - once you're replaced the filter and oil I hope the hum disappears otherwise it's possibly the rear diff - get the oil changed first and see.

These engines are known to sound tappy, again get your cam follower fitted, a decent oil (Millers Nano NT+ 5/40) and see if the sound drops. Depending on how the service documents look, budget for cam chain and tensioner (to the right of your cam follower - can be loud when worn) and cam belt and water pump - opposite end of the engine.

As you depress the clutch the sound stopping is likely from the dual mass flywheel disengages - these are known to become noisy/fail towards the end of their life - how many miles?

There is several very good specialists in Scotland, maybe just a little further south from you...

Once you're on top of the maintenance you'll be fine - they are brilliant motors! Enjoy!

Hi Samuel millage is 117,528 exactly
Service history isn't great only 7 years history of its 13 year life span.
I forgot to mention also it has yellow steering wheel light on the dash, had it cleared when the wheel bearing and caliper was sorted on the day I bought it, but I believe the front brake discs to be warped (although I'm no expert) just get abit of steering wheel judder under minor breaking...but on the way back home with the car didn't go above 50mph all the way home might I add ...the steering wheel light has reappeared on the dash.
But the car will just sit now till all my parts arrive and so far it's hit 800 quid in parts, most expensive is probably yet to come being the flywheel but we'll see how it goes as I said it won't be going anywhere till I'm happy and confident that everything is done properly.
Parts list so far
Cam follower
2 X shaft seals
Oil filter (engine)
Oil filter (haldex)
Haldex oil (58 f#@£in quid for litre)
Pair front kinetics drilled brake discs + brembo pads (admittedly I could of got cheaper but I liked the look of them)
Powerflex control arm bushes all round
Powerflex ARB bushes
Front + rear drop links
Left right ball joints
Inner + outer tie rods + gaiter both sides
3 tins of under seal.

Probably going to add an exhaust of some kind as the current one is standard
Also thinking about replacement of the current ramair filter for a fresh one.
And a complete clutch kit....and hopefully after all that I'll be ready to have some fun.

And please if there's anything you think I ought to add to the list as part of my massive service let me know.

And clearly I already spotted my first mistake payed £58 quid for the oil. When I could of got it cheaper that site

Tempted to cancel the order and reorder from the that site, but I guess the filter does come with it .

Out of interest where did you buy it?
I only ask as Ive just bought a Sprint Blue S3 and there was another on the forecourt when I went to see mine.

I bought mine privately from Rotherham mate.
I hope yours doesn't come with the problems this one has

At the end off the day depending on how much you saved, you might have enough left to get it back working correctly but my experience says you will be paying out a fair bit still as these cars are addictive

I saved almost 2k on the listed price.
I've been thinking about swapping front bumper and headlights with the led DRLs from my 2011 a3 2.0tdi black edition to hopefully fit them on my 2007 S3 8P3 which I think is pre-facelift.
Any know if this has been done or can be done?

It would be a shame to put a non-S3 front on but is doable - you’ll also need front guards, bonnet and possibly slam panel.

Hi Samuel when you say front guards what parts are those? As I've never removed any bumper before in my life.

Why not see if the RS3 8p front could be put on to your 1 , it will cost a fair bit and hard to source all parts but worth it if it can be done on the PLF

I'd like to do that and definitely agree would look beautiful but the cost is abit much, I quite like the look of my black edition front end and I think it would give the S3 a newer look not to mention it would also cost me nothing accept my time which these days have alot of lol

If you change it out for the black edition go for it

Hi Samuel when you say front guards what parts are those? As I've never removed any bumper before in my life.

Your fl front wings would need to be transferred too. You’ll notice on your pfl you have indicators in the wings, but not the fl. I think the front of the wing is a slightly different shape too.

yes it can be done, but on the 8P the bonnet and wings are also different. You then have to change the mirrors too, as the facelift wings do not have indicators, they are located in side mirrors.

Hi guys does anyone here know where I can purchase/hire a T10037 flange shaft puller tool?
I've hunted the internet only managing to find one in Czechoslovakia and will not ship.

Hi there I'm just concentrating on the mechanical side of things just now, the front end upgrade was just something to do later down the line seeing as I have all parts available.
