Hello guys,

Unfortunately, I had an accident recently and went with the car to get repaired in an Audi authorised service. Looking at the invoice now, I see a part number which looks a bit odd to me: G0525422X. Searching for this online comes up with one result: coolant, 10 kilos.

Can someone confirm this too, please? I think 10 kilos is a bit too much for my car :(

Water is generally measured as 1kg a litre so 10kg would be 10L The internet suggests that a 2L TDI A3 takes 12L so not to mad an amount if the coolant system was drained ....

Actually, it is refrigerant (also referred as coolant), not actual engine coolant. Doing an internet search says that my car requires around 450g of refrigerant, so 10 kg is still too much. Not to say that is damn expensive (around £1600).

That is the air conditioner refrigerant...... Lulix, how much did the repair shop charge on the bill to recharge the air conditioning system?

Around £1600. That is why it did smell fishy to me. Thank you for confirmation!

Are you saying £1600 to repair the damage you caused including refilling the system or just to refill the system. Sorry but I'm not sure your giving out all the information?

Sorry for being a bit clumsy. The entire cost for the repair was higher, I payed £1600 for G0525422X, which is, as you guys confirmed, the refrigerant coolant... a 10 kg recipient :(

In that case then, go back and dispute it because that is down right ridiculous

Unfortunately, didn’t realize it until I got home, because the total price was pretty close to the one they did estimate initially. Seems that they did not require some parts and added this part/product to the final invoice. What a shame!

Just go back to your dealer and point out the error, like "hey guys, on checking, I think I've been both overcharged and charged for parts not needed."

When you realised is irrelevant, go back and tell them to refund you. Charging you for £1,600 worth of product they couldn't possibly have used in your car is ridiculous.

I'm baffled as to why you even paid it in the first place, what was the total repair cost that £1,600 was just lost within it?

Yep, that’s what I’m doing tomorrow morning first thing.

The entire cost of repair was around £5,500, which was pretty close to what they initially estimated, before starting the actual repair. I checked that estimate quite in detail and since the sum was quite similar, I didn’t even bother to look over the final invoice. Stupid me!

Thank you guys for your help, greatly appreciated!

The problem is you accepted the quote and they have come in, give or take a few quid, at that price.
They could and probably should have made the difference up in the labour part of the invoice and then you would have been non the wiser!
However as they haven't in my mind you are quite within your rights to query the amount as they can't justify it.

Was this an insurance job or did you pay for it yourself ? Surely if an insurance job they should be having the difficult conversation with the repair place helped by your info to them on the cost of the refrigerant.

I payed all by myself. Let's see what do they have to say about this.

Sorry, but I've got to ask why such a big job did not go through insurance?

I expect the dealer will have made a mistake on the invoice, at least that's what they may say.

I'm not from the UK and here we have two types of insurances: one that is mandatory and it's only for the damages you produce and another one that's optional, which covers any type of damage, no matter who's fault is. At the time of the accident I had only the first one in place.

In what concerns the invoice, there was indeed a mistake and it got solved immediately. Again, thank you guys!

So you got refund?

Where are you from? The UK is similar, 3rd party is mandatory but most,if not all people get fully comprehensive insurance because for some weird reason it’s cheaper!
