Cruise Control Retrofit Guide

Hi Guys,

Recently I had a problem with the steering wheel angle sensor and I said that when I will change this sensor I will add and a retrofit cruise control.
Could someone tell me if I need that extra wire? My car is an audi a3 8p 2008 (2009 facelift) with mfsw and on the vin decoder i had this code 8T0 CRUISE CONTROL: WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM (CCS).

Thank you!

Wire only needed for old cars. Yours will have it in the harness.

I know this a very old thread but just curious, half way through fitting (ran out of light after work)
I have a 2010 A3 8P 2.0 ltr TDI, but on dismantling I don’t have the ESP sensor? How come?

wasnt present on my 2011 either. newer models have it elsewhere it would seem.
ignore that part of the guide, the rest is the same (although i found i didnt need to remove the steering ecu, just drop it enough to allow the stalks to fit)

Cheers for that,

Hello,

just a little update for those, who have pre-face 3doors, and want to fit CC without buying a new steering wheel CU and/or cutting to the underwheel shield.

I belive most of them (3drs split-grill) have steering control unit from VW Golf (in my case 1K0953549A), so I decided to equip VW mono-stalk - 1K0953513A. As mentioned before at thread, I had to connect ECU with steering wheel control unit and a neccessary coding, but after all works perfect.

Cheers from Czech rep.

Sorry in advance if I am repeating things that have already been discussed

Hi there

A family member has recently purchased a 62 plate Audi A3 8p Tdi S line 5 door sportback, without cruise control

I've seen this brilliant guide and I will be using it

But what I want to know is, Which parts do I need to make this happen? The ones I see online for sale within my price range state that they are for 04-09 models, so I'm guessing they wont fit this one which is a 62 plate?

Also, the coding, can someone just tell me the process of the coding via VCDS please

Thanks

Thank you all for this guide.
Cruise control fitted yesterday but yet to be coded.

I struggled with the hidden clips so I took photos to show solutions.

I found that the clip at the back of the computer module could be reached with a finger hooked between the two rear plugs and that the plugs did not need to be removed if you wish not to. DSC 0044
The clip at the front of the computer, I finally managed with a 2mm allen key. I pushed it in until I felt it pushing against the clip then angled the key as shown with the arrow above. Perhaps a rod that has the tip chamfered on one side would do this job better.
DSC 0040
I also struggled to remove the old stalk. The clip at the back was easy but there is a hidden clip where it slots into the into the column. A "snap off" craft knife blade solved this by pushing at an angle between the switch body and the column holder.
DSC 0046

All other aspects of this project were easy thanks to Avus and Sijones.
Hope this helps future modders :)

Hi, can anyone help? I've bought a cruise control stalk for my Audi a3 62 plate sportback. The part I have bought is OEM 8P0054690, having spoken to Audi they say I need that number but with a B at the end, can anyone tell me if the stalk I've bought will work or it has to be the one ending with B. To add I do have multi function steering wheel.

Looking on Ebay OEM 8P0054690 is the code of a retro fit kit. Is there a different code on top of the indicator/cruise switch supplied in the kit?

I had a look earlier and they are the same number as the one I've given if I remember right. Do you know if I need the cable included with the kit? Or plug in and code?

Do you know what part number you used for the stalk? Also did you have to connect the cable provided if one was?

It’s only about half hour to fit, so no harm in trying it.

I am with Abi. Through my own experience of a faulty stalk installed, the ECU is probably good enough to ignore dodgy signals from it. The extra signal wire issue is probably better answered by taking apart your steering column and having a look at the larger connector of the steering ECU and finding the little numbers on it and seeing if pin 13 has a wire connected (commonly black or black/white). if it exists, then you don't need to install it.

Heya, fitted mine today and I'm a bit stuck with the coding...I've done central electronics but don't know about the engine one!

I'm not using vcds but I've got obdeleven which has served me well so far, what do I need to change here:

Thanks!

I did the retrofit and coding and the cruise control works, turns on and off, resume all good BUT the Speed+ and Speed- do not work.

Any ideas?

I did the Steering wheel coding changed required digit to 4.
My Engine II is greyed out and Login requires a secret code I don't have but i did the Engine Long Coding to xxx80F0160 (enabling Cruise Control bit).

UPDATE: When I did this initially I got a failed login code hence the request above but I tried it again later and literally just needed to sign in using 11463 which it took (eventually).

Hi, thanks for that, I understand the steering coding just fine but I'm struggling to understand the engine coding myself.
My software is showing as 0000072 and was wondering why yours is at 0000078. Is that what I need to change mine to?
After checking vcds coding I thought I would need to change it to 11463. Any help before I take the plunge would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you have coded the new stalk to central electronics then you just need to log in to the engine using 11463. I didn't have to code anything so I don't know why mine is different to yours or even what it was before, apparently that 'login' then tells the engine it is installed and mine worked from there.

Hi all. I've order myself a 8P0054690B for my '10 plate A3 and advice on this forum has been a brilliant to give me the confidence to do this myself. So thank you to everyone who has contributed here so far!

I have two questions I'd like to run past anyone who can answer:

My understanding is that the additional wires are not needed for the post face-lift models (so from '08 onwards)? Is that correct?

The second question relates to the coding: I don't have VCDS or OBDeleven, and am actually a little scared about this part. Also I don't really want to spend money on programming stuff that I'll likely only use once. Is the coding something one can go to a dealership to do? Or can anyone recomend someone in the South West?

Hi folks, new to the forum, have read this thread (and others), but have a couple of questions.

MY2012 A3, I've identified all the parts needed to do the CC retrofit, and I have an older style HEX+CAN interface that works. It's allowed me to access and code the Steering Wheel module to 0004042 from 0004012 to prepare the car for the new stalk. My question is do I have to do any other coding? I've read conflicting info. Some sources indicate that you have to enter a long code helper, and change a binary. Also, activate bit 5. I'm unsure if my unregistered version of VCDS will allow me to do this. I've also seen some saying you have change some coding in the Engine module, but again confusing info as to what and where.

Any help would be appreciated.

Its all detailed clearly on this forum tbh, you need to enable in 01 long coding, engine of ignition on.

Thanks, but to be fair the search function sent me here to this thread. Am I right in thinking once I enter 01 engine, I need to add 11463?

Figured it out. After changing 0004012 to 0004042, needed to go into long coding helper in 01 Engine, then click through pages until the CCS option became visible. Newest version of VCDS threw me, just a different way of doing the same thing (I think).

Hey.
Does anyone have the part no. for the control wire, or happens to now whether its male-female terminal in the ends?

Hey guys, just got an Audi S3 2010 8P and I want to retrofit the cruise control

Do I need something else apart from this?

I will cut the Steering Wheel Cover underneath to fit the bigger stalk with CC

Another guy says that I need this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/184648745853 maybe this part is if I have the CC on my steering wheel?

help please :)

If anyone knows about this please contact me on whatsaap? +64273337261

If your vehicle came with the multi control steering wheel from factory (the one in your photos), you only need to buy the stalks in the bay link you posted. You don't need the other control module, your car already has it.

If you're confident with a drill and a hole saw, you could modify the steering column cover yourself - there's an outline on the inside of the cover indicating where to cut. I did it myself, not that difficult.

You'll need to activate the cruise control using VCDS, not difficult either, just need to find someone who can do it for you or purchase the correct cable interface (genuine Ross Tech).

I don't use WhatsApp, sorry. Good luck, it's pretty straightforward.

If it is the single grille 8p2 model (which on the 3.2 started late 2005 iirc) then no, no need for the wire. But if it is the split grill as Scott has, then yes, it will need the wire running.

Also as a basic rule, if your car has a trip computer at least, then no new module is require, although the earlier A3's with the 1K0 module, you will find the cruise works differently(slightly).
But if you have the 1K0 (AH) module, cruise will work as expected.

Scott, if in London, I can do the install for you, as have done for many here and elsewhere. I will also supply all parts.

Cheers
I no this is a old thread are u still retro fitting ? Thanks

Hi NHN,

Wanted to know if you still do coding for the Cruise Control retro fit on a A3 58 plate 1.9 tdi. Can I get in touch with you somehow. Based in Blackburn, but willing to travel around the lancs area.
