My friend has just picked up his new RS3 today and I went with him for the ride. Our first observation is it’s very quiet, no pops or bangs from the exhaust, although the engine sounds just as good. I must admit he is somewhat disappointed by the level of sound from the exhaust and he kept telling me “it might improve, when it has a few more miles on the clock” I just hope he’s right, because I have ordered one. Apart from that, it is as you would expect a lovely well screwed together car.

Is his a new WLTP RS3?

Maybe it's quiet due to that? Though the current 400PS RS3 doesn't sound any near as good as the 365PS RS3. That sounds meaty.

Don't order the sports exhaust and go for an aftermarket system which should add better sound.

Yes he’s is, just like the one I have ordered and it’s too late, I ticked the Sports exhaust option, disappointment all round.

I just took delivery on my 2019 RS3 and I promise you I can hear the exhaust as it Up-Shifts & Down-Ships including the POPS. LOL !!!

It has to be set on, DYNAMIC & SPORT modes ................

I love mine and right now it's getting some PPF Sun Tek wrap as well as CARPRO Reserve Finest Ceramic Coating.

I will check with him and ask if he ticked the “sports exhaust system option” I don’t think the North American markets are subject to the looney politics of Europe with reference WLTP but let me know if that’s wrong

Just to make sure your actually following me.
I knew from others that the ONLY-Way to actually get some Feed-Back from the Optional-Sport-Exhaust with the windows up.
You had to make sure that Both the Dynamic & Sport Modes were selected.
If you do then you can definitely hear the engine/exhaust as you accelerate and even much more so as your coming to a STOP.
And those Pops we so love believe me you'll damn sure hear all that as it's downshifting ............
Also the engine has to also be up to Full-Operating-Temperature !!!

I have zero regrets on my RS3 and if I had the decision to make again I'd order mine exactly as it is now.

Unfortunately we in Europe are subject to new rules with reference to exhaust omissions, WLTP. I know that people over here are committing on how quiet their new cars are now they have a GPF fitted to their exhaust. Are you in North America subject to these rules ???

Yes I know. I have just sold my 67 plate S3 and I was really surprised it went so quick. The guy who bought it told me a very similar story.

Your so right about the European market as I don't think the USA has the same requirements with the added exhaust component to further clean up the exhaust.
I think if we did it would be obvious as I know I'm not having any issue with Exhaust Feed-Back we are speaking of.
I have read multiple times about how quiet the European Exhaust is for 2019 versus the older year RS3's.

I cannot say for a {Fact} that the USA RS3 doesn't have that added component to the exhaust system but I don't think it does.

I thought that some after-market res deletes/exhaust modifications are already available for the new WLTP S3s? Not sure about RS3 though

My FL S3 is over 2 years old now but it definitely got louder after about 3k miles, maybe the RS will be similar? Mine definitely pops and farts. Although @tigerhonaker RS is still low mileage and sounds like it’s making all the right noises.

PFL for the win re exhaust noise ;)

There are now several NEW RS3 2019 videos on You-tube.

I watched this video a few days ago and I seem to recall them mentioning what they thought about how LOUD the exhaust is now versus the past.
The one below I'm almost positive they address the (Quieter-Exhaust).
So, check this video out as I think it confirms what people are saying about the European RS3's having lees Aggressive Exhaust Feedback !!!

The 19 plate cars don't make much noise like the 17/18 plate cars because of the dreaded WLTP / tigerhonker is in the states and not sure the WLTP as hit there yet [ correct me if i'am wrong ] .

Yes, my 67 plate S3 sounds very good lots of pops and bangs. The North American market is not subject to the dreaded EU regulations with regards to GPF, that’s why they sound like pre 68 plate RS3.

Your absolutely right, I watched this Video. Well I should be collecting my RS3 sometime in September, so I will have to suck it up for a while.

Hey it is what it is ............

If I thought I'd get a (Factual) answer I could trust I'd ask my local Audi Dealership Service Manager about the European versus USA exhaust systems.
I just don't think he would know and to be brutally honest I really doubt he cares.
What I might try is to visit my Audi Dealer and go to the Parts Department and simply get them to do the following for me if they will ???
Look at the 2018 RS3 and compare it's full-exhaust-system to my 2019 RS3's complete exhaust system.
That might work if I do I'll come back and post those results but don't hold your breath. LOL !!!

The USA version isn't subject to the WLTP yet

See below the torque still comes in from 1700 RPM, on the WLTP models its 200 RPM higher now...

Well there we all have the question answered in regards to the US to the European market RS3's.

What lies beneath
The RS 3 features the powerhouse 2.5-liter five-cylinder TFSI® engine,
paired to a seven-speed S tronic® dual clutch transmission.
By producing 394 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque,
which is available at engine speeds as low as 1,700,
the RS 3 can sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds —
a powerful force to be reckoned with.

Thanks for the Heads-Up now I know I was thinking correct when I replied above to what I observed regarding my RS3 and exhaust feed-back.
Seems to me to be A-OK !!!

Because I have ordered an RS3, which according to some sections of society is the spawn of the devil because of it poor CO2 omissions. I have been accused of personally adding to global warming, I told them every time we have warm weather they should thank me, I could see my humour was not working, so I am really glad I didn’t tell them about my V8 350GT Mustang. Ha ha

Whilst they might spoil enjoyment there is a very good reason for EU regs, if we don’t start tackling emissions there won’t be much left for future generations.

It isn't cars though is it, Big Industry is the main culprit.

Yes probably but if every minor culprit did something it would make a huge huge huge difference

That’s it, I am going to become a troglodyte. No more travelling by air, no more working that’s it. Ha ha.

How many RS3's slightly reduced CO2 output make up 300 to 500 new Chinese coal-fired power stations by 2030? There are so many things worse for the environment than cars, yet they are too big or difficult for people to tackle so as usual the motorist gets the blame and the punishment. Domestic dogs and cats are also a huge source of greenhouse gas emissions for example, but does anyone get blamed for owning one?

What utter Tosh. It was reported the other week that China have produced more steel in 2 year than we have made in the UK ever !!!

Now think about all of China's coal powered power stations? And as GeoffT says, they want another 300-500 by 2030.

If we listened to the Green party. Ditched the Petrol / Diesel car for electric (which we would need to build lots of power stations to cope. As wind won't power everything) stop flying on holiday, and stop eating meat. We, the UK, would have Zero impact on the global emissions, given the rate China are expanding theirs.

But, Blame the car diver, raise taxes, and all will be good in the world.

I’m not blaming any one, I drive an S3 not an eco car. But adding filters on all European cars will make a difference.

Just because another country isn’t fussed about climate change doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be either.

I haven’t once said blame the car driver, raise taxes but I do think that the addition of filters is only a good thing, it’s small changes but sometimes that’s how bigger changes start.

We can’t stop China doing what they are doing but doesn’t mean we shouldn’t bother at all.

Fair enough if you don’t think there is any benefit but it certainly isn’t cause additional harm.

It will affect the Car industry mate as buyers of performance cars won't buy them.... This in turn will affect jobs in the industry... Dark times ahead for the car industry l think... Unless they find a way round these opm filters, high performance cars is where all car manufacturers make the most money from

You’d lose a fortune on a car that new to trade in?

Is there no upshift fart? That’s a sad sad loss.

If you do trade in, buy an RS3.
