Aerial Amplifier wiring question - 8P S3 with RNSE

I have a 2010 S3 Sportsback with factory fitted RNSE and Bose struggling with FM reception - any pointers appreciated...
Initially FM Radio reception was fine but then suddenly it was poor with most stations unavailable.
RNSE works fine for telephone, CD etc, fuses 9 inside and 18 under bonnet are good. Behind the RNSE all looks connected and the Fakra coax dual connector looks good.
If you disconnect the long rear screen aerial from the aerial amp in the rear hatch, the radio signal dissapears completely and I can't see any damage on the rear screen - disconnecting 2nd short aerial doesn't make any difference.
I bought & tried another amplifier - that makes no difference.
Does anyone know what the 3 spade connected wires are supposed to be as the earth is through the amplifier mountings so brown seems to be earth supply to something else. Large and small white don't have 12v which I was surprised on.

Have you checked that your upper amp is working ok as you said you have checked the lower amp . Maybe sending@NHN might help as he is the stereo guy

Thanks - just seen that the upper amp is hidden in the upper trim so have ordered one of those to try as everything else looks good.

Is it deffo factory fit? The RNS-E still uses a diversity system HF/ZF over the symphony III which used HF/HF antennas.

Reception was always pretty poor on after fit RNS-E's. If you have access to VCDS the ZF circuit will show a fault if it is after market fitment.

But as you said it was all OK up until a point which suggests you have an antenna fault.
 
pretty fast running out of ideas after some more checking - Any other ideas invited...
- swapped upper amp for another - no change
- checked both aerial continuity on rear glass - both ok
- checked continuity from aerial joints on glass to plugs into both amps & also continuity of the 3 wires between amps - all good
- cleared and then checked error codes on radio via VCDS - TV Tuner fault code (enabled but not fitted) but no other fault codes
- all fakra plugs look in good condition
 
Why do you have a TV tuner fault code on a factory fit nav unit? It should have never been coded for TV, are you certain it was factory fit?
 
Thanks Craig - the previous owner had played with the car a bit so quite possible he had an AV input & I'm putting a reverse camera on didn't see the point of recoding for a couple of weeks. Yes I still believe it is factory fit RNSE, phone integration etc and given radio reception was fine for the first 4 months something has broken...
I've messaged NHN as I've reached the end of what i think I can do to diagnose.
 
Easiest way to tell if you car has an AUX jack, check the grey 32 pin connector on the back of the RNS-E, it should be nicely taped up like from the factory.
 
Yes factory style fabric tape on the grey connector - same as others. Thx

You say the 3 wires between the amps can you post a pic off those just so i can rule out something . Cause if you have 3 wires sticking out off upper amp going to lower amp and if upper amp has part number 8p4 035 225 then there has been a retrofit done to elimate the 2 diversity faults which might be causing the problem .
Another thing to do is list an autoscan in the Vcd's section in a post letting us know what you have in the car originally ie cruise control , mfsw so on and we can try help with code
 
Thanks for the suggestions, upper amp is 8p4 035 225 B which I think is different to non-B.
Today I removed RNS-E checked coax continuity (all good) - put it all back in and all stations are working again!
I'll see how long it stays like that and if it throws any new codes on VCDS.
