Morning A.S

Now.. before we get started, I fully understand the heat soak issues and potential negative impact an open cone air filter can have, just interested to know if anyone has gone with the above mod on a b6 .. preferably BEX.

I know the s2000 cone is popular with other 1.8t models and curious if it's possible on our engines / what is involved, even if it's a temporary mod for some fun and noise

Many thanks
Jd

I’ve run cone filters on my Audi Coupé Quattro and VW Golf I & II days. Mixed results, including loss of torque.

Never considered a cone on a modern Audi, with it’s sensitive MAF.

I’ve ran the S2000 on the 1.8T and 1.9/2.0TDi engines never had a issue with MAF

If you run a 3” MAF it’s a straight fit if not will need a silicone reducer

As for heat soak wouldn’t worry on a turbo engine aslong as you got an efficient intercooler shouldn’t make much difference

Induction roar over a lil bit of heat soak any day :whistle2: you could always re-use the original metal plate on the side of the air box to reduce heat soak, that’s what I did anyway :icon thumright:

From what I have looked up , the a4 runs a 2.75" MAF, so I guess id need a short 2.75 - 3" silicone increaser and nothing else to make it fit? How did you support your filter?

I’ll get a picture for you after work bud, it’s not pretty as I did it quickly from parts I had laying about. Will re-do it properly when I get the time

I had on one a Subaru Legacy we had and I ended up hating it. Basically it's as cheaply made as it is to buy and after a few weeks I had to glue bits of it back together. Also it gets dirty really easily, just touch it when you are under the bonnet and you get finger marks and so on, wished I had bought a decent one maybe K&N or something, ended up just looking cheap and crap.

I forgot how quickly I cobbled this together :tearsofjoy: I need to get a bigger cone filter soon and cut the silicone joiner down. If nothing else it gives you and idea of the space you have to work with

Thanks all.. looking into whether a silicone increase pipe will be needed... Also what do you all use for your little secondary filter?

I trimmed the end off the plastic pipe and fitted a small breather filter like this one
