Live in one of the coldest parts of central Scotland......don't need winter tyres

Hm, that's alright then. I had a look at some reasonable tyres earlier, but they are Nangkangs and I just can't face putting them on, as much as I can't face the bill for some half decent ones just yet haha. I'm sure they are great in snow, but under the power of the S3 in day to day use I'm no so sure. Will leave it for now, after you inspired confidence ;) If you can manage without, we all can :p

A tad off topic here... why is it, whenever I look at videos on line, every car that appears to be around the 300-360 bhp mark, they always mention its 'Golf R' competitor, why do they never mention the S3 instead of the RS3?

Not knowing specific examples here.. but the PFL S3 is some 65-70hp worse off than the RS, it's the natural pick to use for comparison I think. The S3 seems to get forgotten about. What annoys me is shows of the likes of Top Gear and now the Grand Tour, never seem to pay any interest to the Audi Sport series.
Perhaps these car journalists think that by using the term 'RS' as a less superior car in their review, they are bigging up the 'said car' given to them by a manufacturer for a 'honest' review for example.

It's like the RS3 was marked 95% of the time less superior to the Focus RS, nonsense. No surprise though when these companies are hired by Ford to get the publicity out there. If you aren't happy driving in a world of plastic, fast, just fast plastic then it has to be the Audi, it's still a Focus. I like Ford's, I love the idea of a 'Fast Ford', but it's nonsense to say it is superior to any Audi in all aspects, like build quality.

The RS3 was highlighted on Chris Harris' Top Gear review for being very fast, but boring.. it would be compared to a RWD BMW, not a fair comparison when you're trying to do nothing more than create a cloud of tyre smoke. What further irritated me, they used sound clips of the RS3 over the M2 footage :whip: Looks like even the producers thought the review needed an added something :whistle2::racer:

Makes sense I guess, just really annoying how they go about approaching it. Because whenever I hear Golf R I have to take a moment and realise that they are too on about the S3.

I realise completely regarding the fact that the RS3 is the bonkers of the A3 range, but an S3 isn't far from it. What made the ask the question is I was watching a video last night comparing a Focus RS to a Golf R and practically admitting that in both cars, it's all your ever going to need on the Road. I think the S3 is probably pushed aside from its sister car due to the fact that they wouldn't want to advertise 2 hatch backs from the same Audi badge and much rather show it's more premium rival.

Besides all of that it's a well known fact that Audi's don't handle well /understeer badly/dead steering .... Which l would confirm to an extent The golf R has a different suspension set up and handles a bit better than a S3

Did anyone get the email last week from Audi about winter tyres?

https://www.audi.co.uk/owners-area/...tyres.html?sc_cid=e1111112890&dbgdid=15010253

£1,720.18 for A3 sportback tyres x4 - are they having a ******* laugh!?

The sales exec i was dealing with at Edinburgh Audi has just posted a £50 voucher to me - presumably for leaving excellent feedback :)

That's ridiculous, but I can believe it!! I didn't get the email somehow.

Nice one on the voucher, I've been told I will get to go on an Audi Driver Experience and Silverstone, but we will wait and see.

I came here to see some pics of FL cars! No one has any?? LoL

AudiNutta, believe it or not, Ford did make some of the finest driver's cars in the past, so I do not doubt the Focus RS is good at all. They've also made.some compete dogs as well, so swings and roundabouts...!

I just had a peek at this

https://www.audi.co.uk/owners-area/...tyres.html?sc_cid=e1111112890&dbgdid=15010253

Some pretty awful looking alloy rims, but my big stumbling block was a different part number for left and right alloys????
What am I not understanding or do I have to go back to wheel university. :whip:
Those tyres are not directional dependant also

Aye so please explain to me if we're getting alloys included for that price? If so far enough with the price but if only tyres then it's crazy.

I'd imagine alloys are included as it says in my email

"Your choice of wheel and tyre combination for Cost Price + £1."

My take on it was that the Golf R is at the top of that range, RS3 the top of that range and so on, so they seem to compare them based on that rather than power output - of course I could be completely wrong :tearsofjoy:

Yes I agree and I'd love the opportunity to drive some of the classics. The owner of my employer has two £80k MK1 Rally Cars, awesome!!

I'm talking build quality mainly, I don't see how anybody reviewing the car could say the Focus is at par with build quality to the A3. I owned a 2013 Fiesta 2 years ago, Ford have gone up in the world I admit but the door cards are still solid plastic and always will be. Very nice cars to drive though, in their class.. which the Audi will always exceed.

I would love to drive a Focus RS, but I won't go and waste a salespersons time and I very much doubt I would get insured to drive one anyway. I have no doubt the opportunity will arise in the future.
The MK2 Focus with the 5 pot was a bit of an animal, the 2.3 is a bit soft for an RS and the pops it makes are awful.. sounds like a 5 year old banging a tin can with a stick.

I had a focus ST3 FULLY loaded it was l thought it a great car the interior build especially the seats where far better than Audi's every thing else was above par for the money and it was better looking than the Focus RS also made money on it after 2 years

Massive change, congratulations! I've went from a VW Golf SDI 67bhp to 147bhp :scared2:
Haha it certainly is, the guys at Vauxhall didn't believe it was my car when i went to collect my paper work, probably because of the jump and being 19 y/o :highly amused:.Just taking my time A) Because of the power difference and B) Whilst the engine beds in- talking of which any real world advice on this guys? Do you need to keep below the 4000rpm for 1000 miles rule? :help:

1000 miles is a bit excessive I think. My tuning company told me that they are run in on a bench. I did around 300 miles below 4000, went above that 4/5 times and no more. Eased it in consciously until around 600 and now I don't think about it at 1400.

I did my first launch at 1200, one thing led to another and I've now done 4 :( Won't be doing any for a good few months now!!

It is, it's great fun but in the RS3 it is brutal.

I decided on 300 miles because some drive them hard from the word go. Don't work them hard enough and you can end up with poor compression and less power.

Mine hasn't been touched no, it will go on a dyno soon to test the power output. They said they will get at least 370hp out of it with a map, but I won't be touching it.. warranty is too valuable haha!

That's a hell of a jump :openmouth: haha

I went up steadily from a Peugeot 106 - 75bhp to a Polo GTi - 125bhp to the current Golf R32 - 250bhp.

Be good to see some more pics.

You have no idea how many Audi garages I visited (some more than three times) , trying to see the colour in the flesh, between ordering Navarra and picking her up.

Very pleased with the colour and the car as a whole.

Coming from a RS250 which was basic at best; it did make me smile at the weekend when I reached red on the fuel and the Sat Nav politely asked me if I would like it to navigate me to the nearest petrol stations. Simple things please simple minds.

Yeah, I hadn't seen Navarra in the flesh until I collected it. Well chuffed with it.
I actually experienced the petrol / nav thing yesterday so used it just to see it in action.
Also told me my battery on my mobile was low even although it's not plugged into the car.
