VAG Admit Cheating Diesel Emmissions...

They'll have an idea, but they certainly won't be sure.

The BBC has just reported this:

Audi has said 2.1 million of its cars worldwide were fitted with the software that allowed parent Volkswagen to cheat US emission tests.

Some 1.42 million Audi vehicles with so-called EU5 engines are affected in western Europe, with 577,000 in Germany, and almost 13,000 in the US.

Affected models include the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3 and Q5, a spokesman told the Reuters news agency

Who knows

VW can go **** itself, I wont be investing again

It is far more likely that the software was produced by Audi engineers than by VW themselves.
Bosch know all about this, but they'll be keeping quiet since they also supply many 'other' German manufacturers.

According to the BBC News website Martin Winterkord is being investigated by German Prosecutors. According to the prosecutors office the probe will look at "allegations of fraud in the sale of cars with manipulated emissions data"

In the German legal system, anyone can file a criminal complaint with prosecutors, who are then obliged to examine them and decide whether there is enough evidence to open a formal investigation.

In this case, following the US revelations about the rigged tests, prosecutors in Braunschweig, near VW's headquarters in Wolfsburg, received about a dozen complaints, including one from Volkswagen itself.

A statement from VW posted in the Latest News section of the Audi UK website says the EA189 type of engine is the only one involved. Quite which Audi models use this engine I don't know.

Meanwhile VW share price is not far off half what it was on Friday the 18th of September !

If anyone is interested in hedgefunds, basically gambling with other peoples money, well they have lost a fortune on vw in the last week.

Back in 2008 the hedgefunds tried to profit hugely on VW shares by betting against them and Porsche and the German economy stepped in to save VW.

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/...ares-dive-ends-VWs-reign-as-biggest-firm.html

and then vw bought porsche.....Jeffrey Archer couldnt make up a story like this from his prison cell !

Serves them right for gambling with other people's money.

This article gives details of where the EA189 engine is used across the group

http://cardealermagazine.co.uk/publ...at-and-audi-dealers-braced-for-bad-news/95867
This article is, I assume, about the US market because it says the A3 from 2010-2015 but according to past Price and Specification Guides Audi stopped using the EU5 standard engines in the UK in April 2014. After that they have all be EU6 standard which I understand does not have the problem. My own 2014 2.0TDI-184 A3 has an EA288 engine which were only used in the 184 versions. The others used the EA189 which is the version that appears to have the dodgy software.

No idea. But the opening paragraph states the following.....
HUNDREDS of UK Skoda, Audi and Seat dealers are bracing themselves for news that their customers’ cars are part of the growing VW emissions scandal.

Where can this engine code be found ?. documents, V5, on the car ?

I have a copy of the ElsaWin software and I entered the details of my car and it came up to say mine has an EA288 engine. I think the service book gives the engine code - in my case CUNA rather the the design number as in EA288.

The 8V 2.0l TDI 150 & 184 must have the same code engine, as mine is a 2013 8V TDI 150 S-Line with the code on the build sheet of CRBC, which gives me the EA288 in that Erwin site!

Had a phone call from my leasing company today. Just said to keep in touch with the providing dealer and they have the same information as owners at the moment. Drive as normal until leading or dealer contacts me.

I think they do have the same engine, it's the gear box and some other components that differ

The 2.0TDI 150 and 184 have different engine codes although are the same EA288 type engine. The 150 has CRBC introduced 04/12, CRUA 09/12 and CRLB 02/13. The 184 has only had one code and that is CUNA. That is the code for my engine and according to ETKA that same code is used for both manual and s-tronic transmissions.

So does that mean ONLY engines with the code EA189 are affected or are the EA288 also ?. I'm getting lost with all this lol

Me too, I thought that as mine was euro5 it was ea189 but now it looks like there are euro5 and euro6 ea288 based engines. So my euro5 crbc engine is a ea288.......every day is a school day.

As far as I'm aware from what I've read it is only the EA189, which was built to comply with EU5 standards. The later EA288 engine was built to EU6 standards and was used by Audi for diesel models after April 2014. The 184ps engine has always been to EU6 standards.

I had read it was EA189 and EA188 that were affected. Pretty sure my car is EU6 as well.

If it was built after April 2014 then it should be EU6. Prior to that the Pricing and Spec Guides said the 150 was EU5.

Yes, mine has the Engine Number: CRLB
Had a quick look at my first Service Invoice and it's written on there.

Together with the NOx figure recorded on the V5C, it looks like mine is an EU6 Engine.
A3 2.0 TDi 150 S-Line Cabriolet is the vehicle if it helps others.

The BBC News that I saw lunchtime indicated that only EU5 Engines were affected - whole range of Audi's listed including the A3.

Question is, if they lied about one engine, how many more are they lying about? I wouldn't count on the EA288 being clean.

It's been reported from day 1 that it's from 2009 so you'd assume not wouldn't you
Sure that was for US cars, I've read different reports saying its going back to 2007 so just wondered if anyone knew.

Especially if Bosch had warned VW about the legality of the "cheat" back in 2007

From what I understood Bosch just gave them information, sort of like having a car and being able to run someone down "Don't hit pedestrians" so VW repeatedly run them down - I forgot where I'm going with this.

VW are a monster and that share game with Porsche; can't imagine the amount of people that lost out!
