Hi guys

I have found past few days that i have a knock between steering when going from left to right over past few months it has gotten worse

Took it to the garage today and turns out its the knuckle on the end of the pinion that connects to the uni joint that is knocking

So new steering rack (£800 TPS) or a sent away for a reconidition (£250)

Surely a car that is 5 years old and done 67,000 miles by todays standards shouldnt need a steering rack

Any thoughts or any experience with this

Mine has a slight knock but only when I first start the car and turn the wheel from left to right or right to left when stationary and try and jerk it to make it do it, I have been told it will be the ball joints in the steering as the B8s have 4 apparently :/ it's strange as after a couple of minutes if I try and make it do it it won't lol

Sounds similar to mine mate will knock between L - R and R - L but started doing it on each turn of the wheel so was abit weary of it but now since the mechanic has had a look funny enough i can get it to do it

But for a newish car its not very good

Not at all, going to get mine checked out now only 50k on mine too :(

Take the under tray of mate and you will be able to see the universal joint if you disconnect it of the rack its on with a torx bolt if i remember right then once its disconnected mine had a wobble on the knuckle coming out of the rack which i dont think should be there

Hmmm well it's in the garage in a week so will get them to check it out thanks for the heads up ;)

Mine has a knock also but it's done 144k.
Has just had a new ball joint when it was mot'd as they deemed it dangerous

When mine was in for new Pistons etc, Audi identified my steering knock as a worn "intermediate steering shaft." They also replaced it as a goodwill gesture - knock gone and steering tighter and more accurate than its been for years!!!

2009, 61000mls just had a new rack under the extended warranty. Checked a few US forums and it's not that uncommon. I think I saw something about a revised rack part number on one forum.
