My S3 Build Thread

Not a great deal of difference if I am honest, perhaps slightly better dry and wet grip on the PSS but I have no idea if they wear more. The PS3's I had lasted 10kish all round, evenly worn and that was with plenty of enthusiastic driving shall we say..

Water clearance on both is staggering though...

Get the PSS's properly hot and then see the difference.

I'd had PS2 and PS3's before, and these can be pushed so much harder before they give in,although in the wet, there isn't a lot in it to be fair.

Compared to Toyo R888s,in the dry,the PSS's aren't too far behind until pushed very hard, when the semi-slick Toyos are clearly better.

Time for some help please. I was in two minds about the engine bay hoses went it all went together

Blue,

or Black?

And I was thinking of adding this

but again not sure now.

As usual your views greatly appreciated.

Like the colour coding on the engine bay cover.

Black hoses, have you tried silicone black hoses?

No extra badge, I am firm believer in the OEM amount of badges being enough.

I can't find any hoses listed for S3 8P

The hose kit on mine is all SFS so it would be worth giving them a call, and the only exceptions are the Forge DV hose, and the breather hoses.

I would leave it with the blue hoses and I think the S3 badge looks nice to its nice to be different sometimes mate

I personally prefer it with the blue hoses as it looks very neat and tidy with some added bling.
I also like the idea of the S3 badge but maybe in a different location.

sorry 4 hijacking ur pic, but at first i would say go black, but in this pic i like the blue hoses they seem to work, everyone might hate me, but i don't like the R8 chrome caps, but that's just me, at the end of the day its ur car, just take few steps back n c wot look u like the best n stick with it ;)
p.s. S3 badge, looks out of place ;)

I'm tending to the black look, the blue hoses take away from the blue on the cover, and that dip stick is still bugging me. Black with silver accessories with blue black cover, mmmmmm. Still thinking.

Anyone want to buy some blue hoses if I stick with black?

hmmm, go all dark blue or maybe two tone, sorry about pic quality :detective2: remember that it's ur car n u r driving it, do wot u like, we can just suggest things ;) i like the hose blue cover with blue hoses, feels a bit more highly modded, hate the R8 caps :undwech: if u r planing to go highly modded route i would keep blue hoses, just re do the blue on cover , but that's just me:detective2:

Hello mate just found the time to do what u done to oil cap it works a treat thanks for this info as its been bugging since I bought it have u decided about your hoses yet

I have put the red on mine they do fade after a little time I think when u lift that bonnet of your it stands out which it should as u wouldn't of done what u done to engine cover

Time for a service and a wash, bring on the dry weather
Washed mine at the weekend, could only manage a quick wash my fingers nearly got frost bite at 0° outside wiping down the panels after its final rinse. Will wait till next time.

Sorry for hijacking the thread a bit, but without sounding daft, other than the obvious aesthetic values what benifit are updated hoses over standard?

Not sure there are any, if anyone knows please chip in. I just didn't like the look of the standard hoses with the kind of braiding on the outside, the looked scruffy.

2015 beckons and I've got the bug again!!!!! Just replaced the spark plugs, pollen filer and oil with Millers Nanotec. Then asked The Phirm to quote the following:

DSG service / oil change
Haldex service / oil change
DSG Stage 2 remap
Revo Stage 2+ software, read you can get the SPS for mine now, sweet..........

Watch this space.....

Uprated silicone hoses are less likely to rot and leak in harsh conditions, like under the bonnet!

Seriously...I've had a set of SFS hoses on my car for a few years now,and they're as good as new.

Finally booked into the Phirm next week for a DSG oil change and remap + a Haldex oil change. Hope the remap sorts the box out! D & S are so out of sync with engine map.

Can you explain a bit more about the remapping sorting the box out and about D&S? I have the same car and same superchips remap as you too. Took mine to AMD today with an engine flutter noise coming from the near side front, suspect gearbox apparently with only 34k on the clock? You had any wierd sounds coming from your gearbox when the revs drop back to idle when pulling away/ reaching speed bumps?

Not had any noises from the box, only flutter I get is from the DV+ letting excess pressure out of the turbo.

The DSG remap 1, raises the software gearbox torque limiter from 250 to 500 allowing more torque from the updated engine map through to the wheels and 2, adjusts the auto settings in Drive and Sport mode to better align with a remapped engine. It also makes manual mode fully manual without the auto change up / down an kick down programmed into the stock map.

Now I have no experience of whether this is better than stock and hope I'm not wasting my money on the upgrade but I do hope it lives up to the expectation I have researched.

I do know that the stock Drive and Sport modes don't work as well now I have remapped the engine.

Will see if it's worth it next week lol

Yes I have returned the car back to standard and removed the DV+ but still blooming flutters. They suspected perhaps the DMF but without stripping it down they couldn't be sure. Let us know on the outcome of the remap as it will finally make a DSG a proper DSG without making decisions for you. What prices were you quotes for the service work as I'm having that lot done this year so curious?

Will keep you posted. Service work on its own is around £240, Audi quoted 340. Bear in mind the oil is 13 quid a litre and it needs 7!

Im going to the Phirm next Saturday to do RS4 valve if you have spare time to pop round for a coffee :). I've done DSG S1 remap and good God its great, much more torque, brutal gear changes and much driveable D mode.
