Hi all,

Am looking to get my alloys in for a minor touch up but don't really want to be driving around in the space saving spare wheel. Anyone know if any full size 5x112 spare on ebay etc will work or will it have to be a specific one? It's a quattro if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance!

The main thing will be to make sure the offset is correct or will work. There will probably be lots of wheels on eBay that are for the previous 8P version of the A3 and when I was considering changing the wheels on my 8V my dealer did say that only wheels for 8V will work properly and give enough clearance for the brakes.

The wheels on the previous 8P have an offset of ET56 whereas the 8V has an offset of ET51.

If you don't mind paying the carriage costs there are usually hundreds of wheels for the A3 on the Germany eBay site.

Also be aware that the saloon has a different offset.

8P wheels fit
Not according to my dealer. The 8P wheels will physically fit into the hubs because the are the same 5 holes at the same PCD but they were told by Audi there is not sufficient clearance for the brakes. If the wheels were the same fit as the 8P why did Audi bother to change the ET offset from 51mm to 56mm.

Dealers ... what they would't do to make you buy rims ...

ET for the 8V is 51 (for 17" and 18") and 8P is 54 for 18" and 56 for 17"

3 mm difference between the 2

anyway, many here already tried 8P rims and they fit : http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/8p-wheels-on-8v.187782/

Why would anyone want to fit old (8P) rims to a new (8V) car?

In my case it would be 5mm (56-51=5) difference as I have 17" wheels on my 184 Sport quattro and I was not thinking of purchasing a new set so the master tech I was talking to had nothing to gain.

I don't know, ask the people that did it. ;)

what is your brake caliper clearance anyway ? I bet it's far more than 5mm.

most of the time, they don't know s**t anyway. Better off searching on the net.
