right for the last 10 months there was a slight knocking on my drivers side when i drive over cats eyes or things alike first i thought it would be roll bar bushes so i wasnt in a hurry to fix it 6 months in and its bothering me so i booked it in a local garage he said the bushes were fine but said the drop links need replacing so we done that and the knocking got slightly louder. so i took it to audi and they said they can hear the noise and couldnt see anything wrong with the suspension and wanted 250 to wire it up to a computer that can locate the noise i said no. thats 2 garages that cant find the problem im thinking if they cant see it but hear is it a top mount?? has anyone got any insight
lol, I haven't got any insight for you dude, as diagnosing a knocking noise without hearing it is next to impossible. It's hard enough when you can hear to to be fair.
Just about every suspension component, when shot, can produce a knock, clunk, whatever.
I do, however, sympathise with your problem. I have had a knocking which has been getting progressively worse for about 9 months now. It's so well engrained in my life that it has it's own name and theme music. I don't actually know how I will feel when I find it, as I think I might actually miss it.
In all seriousness though, it has been getting worse over time, to the point that now the wheels have an occasional and unexplainable shake at high speed...(not balancing).
I have changed the ARB Bushes, drop links, bottom arm front and rear bushes, bottom ball joints, brakes, inner CVs, outer CVs, driveshafts, prop... and most recently tightened up my subframe bolts. And still no joy. The 'Phantom Clunk' is still at large - and has cost me a fortune....
Next on the list.... top mounts, track rod ends, tie bars.
After that... Burn it.
Thought I would share my experience... lol
