Black Edition

I ran a 2006 Honda 2.2cdti civic before (which to be honest has a great engine!) But would say the engine in my new BE 2.0tdi 140bhp is more refined. The Honda has more turbo lag as well.

Quite pleased so far...fingers crossed.

I have a build week of WK39 now ! wooohooo ! ;o), i recon mid October for delivery. Can't wait, also my tires are on the verge of being below the dealer spec of 3mm, so driving like a granny to prevent having to replace them !, that would be a nightmare:nyah:

Been in that boat before when I traded my 350Z in...:tapedshut: When I went to pick up the Monaro the tyre guy was fitting new rears to the Monaro, so I was talking away to him. Next thing he says, you should have seen the state of tyres on a 350Z I had to do earlier :ninja::whistle2:

....Road Tax is due on this trade in, so it'll be getting traded in whether the car is ready or not.
 
i got some reasonable tires when i replaced two a month or so back, i did managed to find some on the net which were £45 delivered ! lol, i could not bring myself to endanger the next owner with these things make from old plastic bags and egg cartons, so i bought some Avon's, tbh them see just has good as the oem and half the price !. If my car is delayed i will need to by tax also !!!, any delay could cost me lots of cash !
 
Because I'm so pleased with it .... a little interior update:

You will observe the now fully working chrome-buttoned RNS-E :thumbsup:and the S3 gear knob and S3 handbrake lever.

Fitted the RNS-E myself (always a recipe for disaster!) and had only managed to get the sat nav bit working for 2 minutes in the last month or so! Not that that was really a problem in Guernsey ...

Anyway, I had summised that it might be a problem with the copied map dvd's I had been using, so popped to my dealer at lunchtime today to try one of their original dvd's. It worked! A visit to parts department told me the dvd was £186 ..... so I walked away.

As I got outside a friend of mine who's a mechanic handed me a package .... a 2009 dvd from a scrapped car:friends:

So all in the world is good!!

Roll on the next mods ... although they may have to wait a bit.

Firstly, apologies for such a long post - I am very close to ordering a Black Edition to replace my now long lost S3 which was stolen earlier this year. As it will be a company car this time, I'm going for a manual FWD 2.0 TDi 170 Sportback and have a few questions.

Thanks for all the photos, I think the BE looks superb, I have a choice of several cars and I'm choosing this over cars such as a Merc C220 CDi Sport and BMW 320d M Sport and 325d SE (both 4 door). I am still tempted by the six cylinder 325d although it will only be an SE. I guess the BMW may be a better drive due to the RWD etc but I do prefer the Audi interior, especially with the FBMFSW.

I am currently driving a 120d coupe which is pretty nippy (177 PS) but the space in the back is pretty poor (and its a strict 4 seat arrangement), otherwise I could get a 123d M Sport for less outlay from myself. Which car would you guys choose? (I know this is an Audi forum but looking for constructive comments!)

How is the new CR 170 engine in comparison to BMW'S 177? Anyone have experience of both? I am going for a drive in one next week but I know I have to hurry as orders for the BE close soon.

This is the spec I would like:

Monza silver (only after seeing Ian C's pics!)

Bluetooth (whats the difference between the cheaper interface and the higher priced one? - A cradle for charging in the armrest?)

Interior light pack

Brushed aluminium inlays, silver stitching and aluminium gear knob (just so its not all black)

Light and rain sensor pack

What's the sport suspension? If I don't select this will I end up with the same suspension as in the SE? I believe if I select sports suspension it will still be slightly higher and softer than my S3?

To answer some of my own questions, I drove a FWD 170 yesterday and once moving it's pretty similar to the BMW. Off the line the BMW is understandably quicker due to the greater traction of RWD.

The dearer Bluetooth kit enables you to charge your phone but a separate cradle is required and many phones don't have a cradle available so I will go for the interface alone - not bothered about a cradle.

I wanted to add folding mirrors but this option isn't available with light and rain sensors (possibly because the side mirrors are then also auto dimming) but apparently they don't fold in that much anyway.

Considering adding USB connectivity although I take note of djelly's comments.
 
Got a delivery date of 16/11 for mine now...

All ordered, and Ive only seen 1 red misano A3 in 6000+ miles in the last 7 weeks.....and that WASNT a black edition....

The Insignia is still rolling on, cant break it but its doing what its supposed to...just want the BE now!
 
I am picking my BE up on saturday! Cant wait now! just hope it is as good as my last A3 that i had!

The only thing that i am a little worried about is the ipod dock, i hear on here that it is really no good and you dont have a clue on what track you are selecting??? is it really that bad???? It got thrown in for free but still that is going to annoy me a little bit of it is!

Anyway i will post pics as soon as i get it!
 
CoolCurly and theGman how long between placing the order and delivery date? It was just under three months for my S3.

What spec have you guys gone for?

Hope the wait isn't too bad!

Yep ... the ipod interface is appallingly bad.

Prepare to be irritated by it!

Order was placed (eventually) by my office about 4 weeks ago so all in all its about 2 months. The office order it through Lex so if a simular spec car comes through with MORE options then spec'ed without an owner I'll get offer that one first...but thinking it wont, so 16th.....Me and my best mate have both started at the same company and ordered the same car (he has gone for IBIS white) so its a bit of a joke who is getting theirs first....

20" wheels sound painful!

I was thinking about the debadge option too, although I have heard some leasing companies don't allow it or can be a bit funny about it.

Mine is also a company car and the leasing company are currently processing the order. I think I'm going to mention it to the dealer when they call me to confirm the order seeing as it's a no cost option and hope they just add it on otherwise I'll do what you're planning and make sure I have a hairdryer, some dental floss and polish ready when it arrives.
 
Brisset, regarding your earlier post on the interior light pack, this can be retrofitted for about £60. You will need VDS to program the car but its a straight forward job. It was the first thing I did no my 58 plate s-line cabriolet.

Lease companies , do not care about the debadge option ,as you say it's a no cost option
As they sell the car's on after , and it does not exactly de value the car. I have bought a ex -lease direct from the company before , and it had no badges.

Good! That's the logic I would apply. Just something I had heard - I will add it on to the order.
 
My old car was written off by an angry lorry driver so i went in to the dealer and said i need a car in two weeks! so i have not had to go though all the build dates and that!
My last car was an A3 that i did order from the start and it took 4 months for it to be built so i know how everyone feels about waiting!
My spec is

BE 2.0TDi (140) Sport back in Matalic Black
Ipod
Weather pack
blue tooth in arm rest

Hope your wait is not too long!
 
I did have another question that might be somewhere else on the fourm but i have not had time to look!

I took out GAP insurance on my last car and am finding it very hard to make them pay up quickly! everything takes 10 working days and most of the workers are very unhelpfull! Has anyone else taken this out and had problems with it??

Just though i would say even though it is a pain getting them to do anything i think it is a good deal! got it throwen in with the car and it has saved me £6000 near enough!
 
I'm picking up my White 1.8 BE Sportback next Monday :shutup2: so counting the days! I ordered it back in May - a long time ago!!

I've gone for stronic based on what you guys have said about it but never actually used one! Is it easy to get used to as its a drive through London to get it home from the dealer? !! :racer: slightly worried!! Any tips? (other than going to another dealer for a test drive?)
My 56 Black 1.6 sportback 26k miles is also up for grabs on the classifieds if anyone is interested.
 
Nice bit of kit s-tronic.... admittedly it is a bit slow on take off - almost as though it is suffering a momentary blip or lag. I'm still getting using paddles and but have avoided throwing it into sport as the ratios appear closer so gear changes occur at higher revs whereas i'm trying to keep it below 3K revs.

slowing down is different to other 'autos' I have driven since changing down is noticeable and uses mechanical braking also so you tend to use less braking force.

You'll be fine.. simply put it into 'D' and drive it like an auto... run it in and be more exploratory.

Dont tell me that - Ive had to go with the quattro Oil burner and Im still over a month away till I get mine.

Havent seen a red one on the road yet - saw a couple of whites and a black today on a 500 mile round day but did see a mint 59 misano Red with 18" CH BBS's on the m1 and a massive smile came over my face. Then saw a Red Misano Sline parked up in Leeds, so sort of close!

I know Ive got the right colour! I just want the ****** car!!!!!!
 
Picked up my black edition on Friday - what a motor and what a looker. Still running it in but boy am I well pleased.
Ordered at the end of June so was about a 3 month wait. Last few weeks were painful to say the least!

yeah, seems that the delivery dates are random - some people wait 3 months for delivery, me still waiting from May!!! Not long now though.... Monday cant come quickly enough!

driven a few cars in my time but nothing has got as much glances as this car.
People including girls just cant seem to get enough of it.

great drive though a BMW does just about beat it.

love it and would recommend this car to anyone

Great photos - think if you did the graffiti one in Black and White it would look very slick.....

If your any good at photo editing, perhaps keep the colour on the actual "piece" on the wall.....

A few pic's taken of my 2.0td 140hp BE in monza silver. Spec wise it's got bluetooth, cruise control & ipod dock. Had it around 6 weeks, covered over 3000 miles and chuffed to the nuts with it!!

Got my Black Edition Sportback two weeks today and absolutely love it - so smooth - the stronic is a joy, acceleration and braking are superb. The roof is great although do hear a clicking as if the panels are rubbing sometimes?
Got the RNS-E from ebay for 360 GBP and it is amazing - plug and play and looks so cool.
I would recommend the whole package to everyone. Took a few pics, but will maybe get some more of interior later. Let me know what you think!

As part of the deal I got them to put the badge on for me as it's meant to be a tricky ****** to fix.

Someone did put the following instructions on here on how to fix:


Slide 1 clip in at a time into the back of the horizontal slat either side of the vertical slat. Try and get the spacing right first time as trying to move them once
on is a nightmare and is likely to scuff the slat. Suggest you put one clip in then measure against where the badge fits to get the other side right.

Push the badge hooks into the clips..one side at a time is easier...once it clicks your in ! Now do the other side and job done...!

You will need to push pretty hard to get the clips in
