A4 3.0 secondary air pump codes

Hi,could somebody tell me where the secondary air pump is on a 3.0 petrol a4 quattro 03 ive got p0491 and p0492 codes and would like to replace it if found to be broken.thanks stu...

Do you have an engine light on? If not i wouldnt bother, its only an emission control.

Yeah the light came on but i reset it for now until it comes back on

Well the light came back with the same two codes.
Ive made a diy smoke machine and im going to look for vacuum leaks but where is the best/easiest place to insert the smoke pipe?? Thanks peeps

I'd take the maf off and connect it in there.

Any update? I would check around the front of the air intake on the vvt selonoids.

Update the air pump output pipe was broken where it meets the engine.I didnt need a smoke test for this leak

I didnt use it i was about to plug it in to warm it up,had a quick nosey in the engine bay and found it.

Im fabricating a stronger outlet pipe to replace it using the original ends and flexi coolant hose,im just waiting for it to arrive

Just finished the repair and im putting some miles on the car to see if the light of doom returns ... so far so good...
