Just wanted to say a quick goodbye to everyone - after my beloved A3 S-Line Sportback was written off by an absolute plonker i'm moving on to pastures new.

This forum has been great, it's a fantastic little community and it's a real shame to leave. After getting a C-class as a hire car i've been tempted over to the other side for a bit of a change. I've got to admit, you only realise how very very good the audi-sport.net forum is until you start reading other forums!

Here's a few pictures of my new baby - It's a Mercedes Benz CLA 200d AMG Line in Cosmos Black - a nice little addition is is the 'Night Package' which looks even better on a black car imo.:chuncky:

Bye for now, I wish everyone all the best (i'll still have a peek in here from time to time)

Looks nice. Not keen myself on the CLA shape. Looks a bit like a Banana. The new A-Class saloon looks nice though. I'm waiting to see that the A35 Saloon looks like in the flesh.

Have you bought or PCP'd? Just wondering what discounts people get on Mercs.

P.S. You don't have to leave the Forum just because you don't own an Audi anymore.

Nice car and all the best.
No need to leave us though as mentioned above.
Would be good to hear reports on how the Merc is going too :thumbs up:

Sorry to hear what happened to your A3 but that's a very nice car you have replaced it with....and as you say it can be good to have a change.
I am a big fan of the CLA. The model designation can be potentially confusing with some believing the CLA is based on the C Class, when in fact it is based on the A Class.
I love the brand new AMG CLA35....which I have probably mentioned once or twice. :kissingclosed:
I liked the look of the new A35 Saloon until I seen the new CLA35 which has a longer bonnet and boot and is overall better proportioned.
As other have said stick around because this is definitely one of the better car forum sites. :)

Have you seen the brand new and significantly redesigned CLA?
Like I said above the A35 saloon looks nice, but the CLA35 is much more pleasing to the eye - IMHO of course. :innocent:
Neither of these AMG models have been released yet, but the brand new CLA is currently on sale and is a beautiful looking car. :sunglasses:

Trouble is with the saloon is that, according to my dealership, having been opened for orders since October last year there are none in the country and none expected until Q4...

Very nice car mate. Personally, I think the CLA is a lovely looking motor.

Merc looks ace, especially all black. They do always catch my eye but....

Someone hit my A3 and while it’s in being repaired I have an A200d hire, the hatchback.

I was quite surprised how poor the interior is compared to the A3. I’ll admit it’s not an AMG version for a fair comparison against the S Line so perhaps the difference wouldn’t be so much but looking at your one shot it doesn’t look dramatically different.

The quality of plastics is poor. The biggest no no for me is the plastic gear stick vs audi’s lovely metal and leather one. Considering you touch it so much you’d think they would spend an extra £30-£50 on a nice one. Again perhaps different in the AMG.

The plastic MMI knob, fake carbon fibre material on the dash and air vents also scream low quality. Awkward handbrake position and tiny rear view also, although less of an issue.

It’s a shame really as they really know how to style a car externally. They just need to sack off their interior dept and start again.

I thought the amount of noise from the engine internally was bad too, I’m not used to a diesel so appreciate it won’t be petrol quiet but mates with diesel renaults and Hyundai seem quieter than the merc.

Random question, does the handbrake auto release? For some reason on mine it doesn’t...then it’s a push to apply it and pull to release it. All seems crazy.

P.s. don’t mean to rain sorry for being a shyster.

I have driven the new a series and didn't like it one bit, especially the auto gearbox that couldn't work out what gear it wanted be in, the unrefined urban ride and the engine that sounded horrible. Comparing it with our mk8 fiesta I'd take the Ford over the 'A' car any day. But then it was also a relief to get back in to my own car..

Hello, thanks - yeah the a35 saloon looks very nice - i’ve bought it but no via merc dealer so have no idea i’m afraid. Ah yeah i know, will have a peek at the forum every now and again, just a little cherrio for a while

Hi, thanks! Yeah i know where you’re coming from - i would agree the A3 feels a bit more solid interior wise and pips it. But i quite like mine still - it’s a change, No fake carbon fibre in mine its like a brushed alloy look

I’ve a 7speed dct (auto) so no gear stick at all I’ve got flappy paddles and a stick on right of steering wheel for D,N,R & P - more storage space in centre where gearstick would of been for drinks etc. Handbrake is located bottom right of steering wheel on mine not sure about A class hatchback might be the same? Yes it does auto release though same as A3.

Haha no no - everyone has different opinions on things!

This is something I only found out recently about this model.
I think it would seem a bit strange initially, but once you get used to it will be no problem.
I suppose the advantage is you never need to move your hands far from the steering wheel. :)
Not sure how I feel about the fake gear lever though....

Most mercs apart from the amg ones are like this. Window wipers stalk as a gearstick. I have it in my mrs car. It’s one of this things that you think what was all the fuss about once you are used to it. Only annoying thing is there’s no quick way to switch to sport mode without using the button on the dash and cycling through the different modes unlike the stronics you just pull the gearstick back.

Handbrake on the other hand takes a lot of getting used to. Location of the button/switch is a bit awkward. Was basically told by dealer you don’t need to press the button. Just use the footbrake and when you parked switch off car and the handbrake automatically applies.

I believe the AMG ones use this type of gear selector too....or at least the A35 models do anyway, and having thought about that would assume A45 also.
I will take your word on the handbrake....and I could live with that as long as its not applied by default like it or not every time the engine is turned off because I wouldn't like that.

The old a45/cla45 had a stick in the middle similar to the Audi’s. Not sure about the new ones.

Current AMG A35 is definitely on the steering column. I can't say for sure about other AMG models, but the new AMG CLA35 will undoubtedly be the same. You would imagine the new A45/CLA45 will be the same, but who knows.... :D

It’s probably cost cutting. 1 less switch:wink:
I quite liked the old a45/cla45. Almost got one too.
