Pre-FL S3: Most effective way to make more noise?

Hey guys!

Just collected by S3 Sportback PFL today, amazing so far coming from a 1.8TFSI A3. I had the previous car stage 1 and intend to do the same with the S3.

Whats the easiest/cheapest way to get some more noise from the car without failing an MOT or changing the whole exhaust system (I am going for the OEM Look)

I've heard of the Valve disable mod, but not sure how to do it with VCDS? I currently have a Carista device if that helps at all.

Don't do it, at least not to the extent that your car is a noise nuisance.

Carista was meant to be able to do it, never worked for me though. There's guides online I'm sure how to do it with vcds, likewise videos of doing it the manual way (disconnecting the cables).

I'd try doing this before getting a res delete.

Res delete and valves open though on PFL = loud and kinda annoying when doing 70+ mph as like 3k rpm.

I have custom res delete and unplugged the exhaust flaps and put blanks in like these. Does sound good, louder bangs etc but it does drone, mostly on the motorway cruising over 3K or when it’s boosting.

I've had the flaps disabled via VCDS, sounds good - there's a bit of a drone when cruising but if you listen to music it's not a problem

If PFL, as most have said on motorways they tend to drone based on what plenty of people on this forum have documented. BCS res delete with valves closed I think is a popular choice, as it comes with an anti-drone device.

I had the valves coded open on my car, which I loved. I then installed a res-delete but combined with the open valves the drone was too much. Since having them closed I'd say the res-delete is a great little mod.

I purchased mine from a company called Zaustworx and installed it myself (you'll need the car up in the air to do this though - not sure if axle stands will give you enough room underneath). You need to cut the existing resonator off at one end (the other is clamped), so you'll have to by a pipe cutter if needed. I also bought a second clamp to convert back to stock if needed. All in all a simple mod with good results for under £100.

The best solution I found with the S3 is again as others have stated, center box delete, and keep the valves active. I have no such issues with drone, although I can see where people are coming from...it is a tiny bit drony, however, its nothing that I havent had in the past and its certainly no where near the limit of where I think its too much...but thats where everyone is different, whats acceptable for one isnt the same for another

Best solution is a res delete pipe, and keep the valves for a bit of adjustment...

You could have just coded them open with VCDS if you know someone that can do it for you?

There's a VCDS map on the forum, just take a look and send a PM. I'm sure there'll be someone nearby that can help - and cheaper than the £45 deletes.

Just ordered one of these Zaustworx pipes - Seems a good option for now until I can get a full exhaust system made! How do you find it?

Cant fault it mate. There's no way I'd pay £250 for a piece that eliminates the drone (which is minimal, a little under load on A-roads etc), but I mostly do city driving anyway so it doesn't bother me as much.
