I want to try de-conning the wifes car (before I brave my own) as it has ALOT of iron fallout etc. Now I tried some iron remover but this didn't remove all of it when powerhosed off. Now what I'm unsure of is what to do next with the hard to shift bits. Do I repeat with the iron remover, or agitate the remainder with a cloth or something, or do I move onto claying. Im just worried that claying with iron deposits still there may incur some damage. Or is the idea of claying to remove these hard to move final deposits? Bit of a novice at this level so just after some advice, thanks.

depends if the end goal is to correct/polish I guess.

if not, spray again and rinse, bearing in mind not all contamination is iron, there is tar and other general road *****.

agitating the iron with a cloth will bring on fine damage like claying would, again, if you are going on to mint the car afterwards, this wouldn't be such a big deal.

Can I ask what products did you use to decon the car.

I ask as using Bilt Hamber Korrosol or CarPro IronX has worked for me everytime. However, it is always a first step if you are then planning on /correcting/polishing/waxing the car. Clay bar is definitely the next step and as long as you are keeping the surface wet while claying the car you'll be fine. One thing to remember is that clay will result in paint marring, which the polish/correction stage will remove.

@Tashfeen and @MattSedg thanks for that. Well basically the car was detailed at new with Crystal Serum Light + C2. Its now 2 year old and just has lots of crud mainly just on the side doors and the rear. The roof and bonnet are still pretty good. I just want to try getting them pristine again but without going back to the detailers and without any extreme detailing. TBH my first attempt was a poor one: I didn't use a Tar remover first, nor did I wash the car first (and it was hanging, hadn't been cleaned in ages although I had done a quick snow foam prior actually). Because its been treated with Gtechniq I like to stick to Gtechniq products so I used W6. It removed quite a bit and indeed the purple was running wild dissolving the iron, but there still seemed a lot left over.

As far as claying goes, are you suggesting you will always marr the surface even if careful? Because I wasn't planning on any correction after. Although I guess I could try. Im just trying to keep my ceramic coating intact.

I'd wash the car, de-iron it again, then go around and hit the bits of tar with a tar remover, wash again then follow up with c2v3.

As stated try tar remover . The iron and tar stuff may take off the treatment you had done though
