1.4 60mpg :-)

I thought Id give an update on the MPG performance of my 2 month old 1.4 Avant BE. Ive been getting 60.1mpg as a maximum high, this is with air con on a low settings and the radio on. Ive not been actively trying to achieve a great figure but it does show what is achievable form this small engine as an option away from the more expensive diesel models.
Today my commute over 25 miles gave a 58.9 average, it was 60mpg but the slip road off the motorway was up hill and dropped as I cruised around the car park looking for a space. I think thats pretty good

Good work, I am not suprised though as in the A3 I used to get 65mpg from the same engine...

I've averaged about 40mpg over 2,000 miles. Mixture of country A & B roads and motorway and a little town.

Nice one! I bet nobody 20 years ago would have thought 60mpg would ever be possible from a petrol.

Realistically though, how "reserved" is your driving style to achieve this? One of the things I really like (and will miss) about my current 1.6 diesel A3 is that I can drive rather *cough* "enthusiastically" and still achieve 60-65mpg

I had a 1.6 diesel A3 as a loaner for a week and, apart from it sounding like a tractor, over urban runs it hardly varied from my own 1.4 150ps A3.

I did low 60s when I overtook and high 50s mostly. Just sat in lane 1 in between lorries and then just speeding up a bit to overtake when I came up against a slow lorry. I used cruise control the entire way to control my speed and not once used brake or accelerator pedal. All possible when there is hardly any traffic and I can see clearly ahead and plan my moves.

Good work.i have achieved similar results .
Atm i m driving A4 avant 2.0 tfsi 190 stronic for 2 weeks and averaged 62.8 mpg from airport to home.
Record is still 1.4 tfsi avant with 74.3 mpg

Wow that’s amazing isn’t it from a 2.0T. I’ll try harder tomorrow... what are the diesels getting if we get this from petrol?

I literally just done a 370 mile journey up north and back. Averaged 54mpg, travelling at mainly 60-65mph. That i would say is my best, I havent hit more (atleast when i actually track it)

Interested to see what i will average on my commute. Was getting 29mpg in a 2017 Focus ST.

Anything over 30mpg will do for me as I dont do loads of miles but it is nice to know it isnt a guzzler when you go on a decent run.

Managed 61mpg on a 400 mile round journey... only used up half a tank of fuel.. cruised at 60-65mph. Just full tanked from half and its now showing a whopping 635 miles of range. Very impressed indeed! I dont even wanna drive the car anymore thats how impressed i am haha
