Hi all,

My 1.4 BE will be here in a few weeks and I need to decide on maintenance options. I can protect the whole car including tyres for £13.47 pm, £350 over the term.

I've had this on my current M235i and I calculate that I've about broken even. 1 x service, 1 puncture repair and a few pressure check visits.

Whilst that is a 6 cylinder and therefore a more expensive service I'm aware that the BE comes on 19" rubber and to replace like for like Continental/Michelin will be close to £200. Therefore I think it might be best to take the package again.

How much is the first service on the 1.4 and is it annual or two years like my 2 series, based on 6k pa?

Thanks

That's really cheap... For the S4 over four years I was quoted £83 a month for the service package with tyres!

1.4 first service is 9000 miles or 1 year, I was quoted £174 by Audi but got an independent at £112 for oil, oil filter, sump plug, checked other stuff and electronic service schedule updated so the £13 deal sounds good to me

Thanks for your input. It's through a contract hire which may explain the good price? I'm just waiting for confirmation from the broker now.

I did think it was unusual not to have gone up compared to my last contract but assumed it was due to the engine difference.

If it's an annual service then it's definitely worth it.

Considering mine is £9.56 per month over 36 months for a service only contract that is a very good price...

Checked today and Tyres are not repaired or replaced for punctures, only wear. As I do 6000 a year that's not going to be an issue so I've removed the additional package.

Based on my experience that's not a typical maintenance pack and a bit of a con imo!

It would make selling the tyre protection package a bit harder if it was already included in another package though...

Nope, no pollen filter. Oil and an oil filter, that's it! But, you get your Online Digital Service history stamped!

I'm pretty sure the pollen filter should've been changed, no? And that just makes the cost even more outrageous. What dealership was that?

I was told that the pollen filter did not need changed. Lookers Audi, Hamilton.

Fair enough, I just would've thought by 18k miles it would need to be changed... So oil and a filter cost £359. I dread to think what I'll be for the S4 then!

Far too expensive, if you take my service plan at £9.56 over 36 months it equals £336.96 for three services. I doubt my 1st service can include less items unless the oil is gold plated for the S4...

If it helps costs for my B8.5 S4...

Year 1 £238.64 oil + filter (Reading Audi)
Year 2 £360.79 oil +filter + inspection (Newbury Audi)
Year 3 £327.39 oil + filter + MOT + brake fluid (Newbury Audi)

Really appreciate the input, thanks for that. It's looking more and more like the £26/month isn't too terrible given the costs of the actual services...

I've been quoted £39 p/month for full maintenance + tyres on the 1.4 Black Edition Avant. It'll be on a 24 month 10k pa lease deal

Likely to use local dealer (Hamilton Audi) so am I correct in thinking that the car will need 1x major service at 19k miles and £359 and I'll probably need 2 tyres at £180 each, happy to risk punctures

£1000 over the life of the deal seems very steep!

Any guys have links to better deals / sites?

I would have thought tyres would be nearer £120-140 or even less not £180, but I guess it depends upon what make and where you go. For my A3 from blackcircles one michelin ps4 was £116.21 fitted...

Maybe not that steep, the standard fit Hankooks on mine are £176.87 fitted from Blackcircles...

I am positive it should include a pollen & filter change! Our B8.5 had it's first service in 2015 and it had an oil + oil filter change and a pollen filter change because it was 2 years old (Long Life Servicing Schedule).

However now the car is out of the 3 year warranty the cars is being moved over to a Fixed Servicing Schedule and I'll be doing all servicing myself. That way I at least know it's been done right.

I would only ever use the dealer while the car is under warranty just to avoid hassle in the event of any kind of claim, but after that, they wont get any more money from me. Just rip off merchants, over £350 for oil and filter that will cost them £20 (they buy in bulk after all). I know they need to pay their mechanics, service writers, building rental, etc, etc, etc, but come on...that's just taking the p*ss!!

Yup, I pretty much knew I was getting bent-over however I was enormously busy and had service campaign stuff to do too. With all the service campaigns, software maintenance, online service history etc your getting pushed down the dealer road, certainly for its first few years. I'd rather use my local garage to be honest, it cost half the price and I wouldn't have had to lub the tailgate myself!
