8V VCDS Mods

Does anybody know how to add the full phone menu to the virtual cockpit? Here in NA we get only the partial menu with no text messaging options

Not possible. This is the default display if you have your vehicle configured as an A3. For what you want you would need to re-parametrise as a TT and lose your MMI / centre display in the process.

Would be interesting to hear the comparison between the carista method and pedal box.

@DJAlix please share your thoughts if you get round to it :)

Just got done with my of my clients / sponsored cars and managed to do a little testing however I believe the results are skewed due to the RS3 in question being Stage 2+ with a TCU tune. There was a difference in throttle response but it was not as pronounced as I thought it might be. Will be testing with my own vehicle, unmapped, tomorrow morning and will report back. I did not have the time to see how Carista is making the change.

One interesting thing I did just test was the AWD "Acoustic Measure : Wiring Logic" adaptation. I tested all modes as follows:
  • Car setup: PFL MRC Stage 2+ RS3, MSS Kits LS setup, Michelin Rubber (what ever the latest all weather tyre is).
  • Ground = Asphalt carpark, empty and dry.
Standard (factory default) = Felt like the back end was gonna let go but it never did.
Increased Traction = 100% PLANTED and felt it! No matter what we did the vehicles bum was going nowhere.
Reduced Noises = Donut time! Was not too easy given the vehicles setup but ended up being able "step out" on demand.

So I managed to do a little testing this morning but time was limited. My car is as follows:

MY17 Audi A3 8V 2.0TFSI S-Tronic Quattro Saloon, stock ECU and TCU, CTS High Flow Pipe, Pipercross Panel Filter and Revo Pipe

Why list my spec? Well the above basically removed most of my throttle lag, and the addition of the TMC pedal box allowed for the lag to be completely removed, and I think that my "basic" hardware might have rendered this software tweak unless. Why? Well I disabled my TMC pedal box, made the throttle change via carista and went for a drive around the carpark I was in. Reverted setting + test drive then made change again and went for a drive. In short I did not notice any effects of the throttle tweak but am still interested in seeing what potential this has for "stock" vehicles seeing what others have reported. Am gonna be doing some dyne testing next week (new tuning box incoming :) )and plan to remove all my mods for the first runs, will test again while stock and this time reference the changes in VCDS.

@DJAlix I can't remember if this was only in Carista beta or public version, I don't have beta but do have the pedal box so would be good to compare myself, 100% stock car. Will try to plug in tomorrow and check if I have the option.

However I wouldn't want to find out that pushing a button in Carista for £15 does the same as the £100+ pedal box ;)

Beta only at the moment. Have submitted a massive feedback report as most of the stuff does not work lol

What this modification does, and how, still remains to be seen from my point of view but its not something that you can tweak. Its "factory" setting or "additional" setting, thats it. Good pedal boxes are tuneable to a cars individual setup so I cannot see anyone dumping them.

It is low speed minor throttle inputs where I notice the difference. Accelerator feels more attached to the engine with less pause before reacting to minor change in position

This is mainly what I was testing for and never really felt any change. What car do you have and any mods?

So somehow I have disabled the sweeping/pulsing function of my rear indicators when I lock and unlock the car, the function still works during normal driving. I just coded the low beams to be off during coming home/leaving home light together with an attempt to control the brightness of the LEDs during low beam and blinking (without any luck it seems but I'm pretty sure thats because I got Matrix LEDs). I only touched the below functions and didn't touch anything in light channel 16 or 17 (rear indicators).

Any suggestions to how to get it to work before I revert everything back to normal?

I have applied the "throttle mod" om various cars / engines.

Standard is the throttle respons exponential, the curve is not straight. With directly controlled the curve becomes a straight line. The respons will be a bit quicker and the car reacts better.

There is one minor "downfall".....the steering will be slightly heavier. I have not figured it out why it becomes heavier.

I have succesfully applied it on various engines and models/brands (around 20 cars) As far as i know it can only be done on MQB platform cars.

My list of cars:
- a3 1.4cod (pfl and fl) / golf 7 (pfl and fl)
- a3/octavia/leon/golf 1.0tfsi
- a3/octavia/leon/golf 1.6tdi
- Seat Leon FR 2.0tsi (300hp)

Has anyone reduced the headlight washer sequence when using windscreen wash? I find it a bit full on and it covers half the bonnet

Another option to make sure the headlight washers do not run is to turn the headlights off when you wash your windscreen (if safe to do so of course). I am also sure there is a time amount in VCDS but I do not know it myself. Cheers!

Good plan, I have them on auto all the time so I'll just flick to off when it's not dark out. Cheers :icon thumright:

I keep forgetting to check this, but I feel certain there's a way to completely disable them with VCDS.

The problem with that, I think, is that the counter resets when the car is turned off. So, while the factory default may be eight cycles of the windshield washer to every cycle of the headlamp blaster, the count is going to start after the first pull of the wash stalk and the subsequent blasting of the front end (unless you turn the headlamps off before triggering). For my case, I've not modified the factory coding of eight cycles, but I routinely see the front end blasted with wash soap. Enable/disable may just be another adaptation channel within the same function set. I'll have to poke around a bit and see.

Ahh ok - that's my experience too. I wouldn't mind just totally deactivating, the car never get's dirt enough to warrant it.. Let me know how you get on :icon thumright:

You can change the time you have to hold the washer lever back before the headlight wash kicks in, default is 500ms, you could change to say 2500ms so to wash screen is a quick pull, and hold it longer if you def want the lights washed.

Would you know which module and adaption channel? Also face lift or pre? Thanks!

Don't know if it's just me but I've never gone "oh my lights need washing". Never notice a difference once they have been washed.
As for windscreens, hate them being even a tiny bit dirty...

So doing the above would be quite useful, use less washer fluid..

I used OBD Eleven, Module 09 then Adaptation. In prefacelift I think the name is Windshield Wiper in the facelift It should be Scheinwerferreinigung. For the delay the option is SRA Verzoegerungszeit, the default is either 0ms or 500ms just change this to suit mine is at 2500ms (2.5 seconds).

Not sure if you have the PFL or the FL but if the latter then to wash the screen just pull the stalk towards you for a split second and it will deliver a set amount of water. Hold a little longer for the lights, let go and it will wash the screen and lights with a set amount again. If you never want the lights washing then never hold the stalk back.

I have been reading and reviewing this thread with interest and have bought myself a Ross Tech unit, in readiness for a few changes to my new A3.

Is there a beginners guide available?
Also is there a list of manual of codes which have been tested and finalised? (I appreciate this thread has loads, but some appear not to work)

What I am wanting to do is:

> Enabling the screen to shown the rear parking sensors

> Enabling beeping on locking

> Enabling powerfold mirrors to unfold when car is unlocked?

> Turning off start stop technology for engine in traffic

> Enabling LED interior lights controls for a retrofit

Hey guys, I have a FL S3 and am trying to get 2 mods working:

- Disable amber/side marker/ambient light. I have an American model and tried the following I found on another forum:
Leuchte25KZL HA59 Lichtfunktion A 25, B 25, and E25 set to not active but only the trunk light is disabled.

- Auto lock/unlock based on proximity to car. Basically, auto lock when walking away from the car without touching the door handle.

Is there a beginners guide available?

If you are wanting to learn how to use VCDS and the "in's and out's" I would recommend the following:

I would suggest reading this thread and having a google around as many people would have posted coding and their results. I did compile a document for the 8V but it was abused by both individuals and businesses so pulled it.[/QUOTE]

Enabling the screen to shown the rear parking sensors
If you have a new facelift vehicle this is not possible. If you have a Pre-Facelift vehicle the coding is within this thread, however this is the needed coding:
10 Park/Steer Assist > Coding > Long Coding Helper > Byte 02 > Activate Bit 0

Enabling beeping on locking
Coding is within this thread, however:

Acoustic Alarm MMI Menu Control:
09 Central Elect > Adaptation > Menuesteuerung akustische Rueckmeldung > active

Acoustic Alarm On Lock:
09 Central Elect > Adaptation > Acknowledgement Signals - Akustische Rueckmeldung Verriegeln > active

Acoustic Alarm On Unlock:
09 Central Elect > Adaptation > Acknowledgement Signals - Akustische Rueckmeldung entriegen > active

Enabling powerfold mirrors to unfold when car is unlocked?
Power folding and adjustable mirrors for this vehicle platform will only unfold when your key has been turned to the Accessory / 1st Ignotion position.

Turning off start stop technology for engine in traffic
Suggest using the forum search function as the coding has been posted. I personally do not use the coding method to disable start / stop so cannot advise.

Edit: Further to the information I posted re your "guide" request, might also be worth looking at a guide I posted which details how to backup your vehicles coding and adaptations:

Not possible without wiring modifications as the functionality in question is hardwired within the engine bay. There is a thread over on the Ross-Tech forum covering this subject where I posted the results of research and testing.

Thank you so much for this reply and taking the time to provide such a great response.

I have already printed off much of the information to sit down and start reading through.

Is there nothing available for:
> Enabling LED interior lights controls for a retrofit

I had found:
Address 09 Select central electrics
Enter access authorization / LOGIN: "31347"
Select adaptation.
Interior lighting -> KL30G without PWM -> set to active
Select Restart control unit.

Does that look correct to you?

This makes me very cross that you posted:

"I would suggest reading this thread and having a google around as many people would have posted coding and their results. I did compile a document for the 8V but it was abused by both individuals and businesses so pulled it.

Why are people do this is beyond me.

Do you still have this document? Could I have a copy? I certainly will not distribute it and definitely wont complain or abuse it.

Thanks again!

Your welcome. I have the document somewhere on my NAS but thats where it will be staying, however I will be posting information from it to both my website and my ASN form section when time allows. As for the interior lighting coding request, no no no no..... thats not what you need and I would suggest changing it back. Whats needed is more complicated than just a single change and I believe is posted within the forum. Not sure what the steps are off the top of my head.

Try to take a look at this page: https://www.stemei.de/pages/coding/audi-a3-8v/ambientebeleuchtung.php

All except the long coding were already enabled in my car because I have the lighting pack. However, doing the long coding made me able to turn up the brightness of the B&O speaker lighting and dimming the other lights to normal levels, looks pretty cool now :thumbs up:

Understood, if you could let me know when this is on your website then I will use them

Thanks for the information on the coding, I purchased the interior roof LED lighting package from a well know retro fit company and the instructions it came with included only this piece of coding, so I am a little concerned to say the least.

I will review the forum

You asked for the coding for "Enabling LED interior lights controls for a retrofit". If you were retrofitting the Audi interior lighting pack you would be installing:
  1. Footwell Lighting
  2. Puddle Lighting
  3. Door Warning Lighting
  4. Door Handle Lighting
  5. Cupholder Lighting
  6. Vanity Mirror Lighting
  7. Rear Reading Lights
  8. Front Dome / Map Reading Lights
Of the above numbers... 1 to 5 actually need coding in order to work correctly and so they can be controlled via the MMI. 6 and 7 require no coding. 8 Requires the coding you already have from your supplier. When you asked for "coding" I assumed that you wanted 1 to 5 as, in my defence, no one really "correctly" retrofits the Front Dome / Reading Lights as its a lot of work if done as per OEM spec's.

Is there anywhere at all that has an entire list of all the VCDS mods? There’s 76 pages here and there’s no chance I’m going through it all. I know I want rear DRLs on, needle sweep and to increase the brightness of the front DRLs.
Will Carista allow me to make these changes, and if so, how do I go about buying the hardware for it? Thanks.

Not sure about the brightness of the DRL, haven't seen that option.. but I've done the other 2 using Carista. I just bought it from Amazon for like £16 and comes with a month trial.
