S4 Exhaust Valve tweak

I'll be interested to see the spacers on as well.
Had toyed with getting centre box removed for a bit more noise but scared I might ruin it.

I'm banking on you being the guinea pig If I hadn't an RS in mind, I'd go full hog on this. Spacers, exhaust, springs, wheels, aero...the lot. But time moves quickly and a deposit is an important thing!

Haha, don't count on me getting too much stuff beyond what I have planned so far! Need a pay rise first...

Yeah I'm keeping things simple with this too. Don't want to start cutting things on a PCP car.

Speaking of exhausts...how on Earth did this sneak by my eagle eyes on YouTube?!

Finally some real World sound of that 2.9 V6 on the new RS5! It's...well, I'll just say it, its light years behind the emotion of the 4.2 but sounds nice

Sounds alright but I'm a little disappointed to be honest... I'm hoping that with the Milltek mine will actually sound better than that and then there's really no regret in not getting the RS model!

Does just sound like a slightly more aggressive version of ours doesn't it? Benefit of the doubt though, videos like this don't capture everything sometimes.

If the valves are usually closed at low speed does this not affect the new twin scroll turbo as it would suggest in the explanation here? Sorry if it's already been answered it is 3am haha

I highly doubt it because the turbo has each scroll attached directly to bank of cylinders on our cars and then the valves in question are way downstream at the other end of the exhaust. I've always head you want as little back pressure as possible on the exhaust of a turbo so really the valves being open should help!

Looking on an S5, I can only find one behind the box on the left hand tail pipe. Cannot see anything on the right hand side.
Also, how does the clip work as i couldn't just pull it out and couldn't feel any clip thing to push to uncatch it.

Also also, are you sure that powering off when in Dynamic & sport settings does opens everything up? Sport settings is just a gearbox mapping and defaults back to D when powering off, I'm pretty sure it makes no difference to the exhaust note other than its running higher revs.

Also also also, my car already is quite loud when turning it on from "cold" is the implication that it will be louder? that the valve things are closed when starting it up even when its in dynamic?
I've read a couple of peoples posts on here saying how they did it but it seems to conflict.
what are the actual steps in doing it?
ignition on > dynamic (it always is anyway ;)) > Sport > ignition off?
someone said that the valves are shut on ign off though?
do i unplug whilst engine is on?

/confused

thanks

Ooft.

I'm trying to remember now.

Valves open when car is off I think. But as soon as ignition goes on they close over so when starting car up, the valves are closed. Even in dynamic, it only gives the revs a higher idle. The valves do t actually open til past 2 grand or something.

Simply, I unplugged valve connectors whilst car was turned off. When you start back up, the valves should remain open at start and throughout. My left one was easy to unplug but right one was a ball ache! Had to get another hand to help. Think there was a stone in the release catch.

Ok, well I can't even see the right hand side one, there is a connector right above the tail pipes near the inside of the bumper but I'm assume it can't be that one as it doesnt seem to be going to the actual pipe at all. I don't seem to see any wiring going to any plugs on the right side of the exhause, even looking further back a'la the picture of the whole exhaust earlier in the thread. (the other photo of the plug itself was no help given i have no clue where that actually is supposed to be! :)

cheers for the reply!

The one you have seen on the right is the correct one. It's just a nause to get to and 'see', more to the point. I had to raise the rear on a curb.

how can it be the correct one, there doesn't seem to be any wire going to anything on the actual exhaust!?

Nause = an embuggerance haha.

I don't know what to say, I have an S4 Avant and this is where my drivers side valve control unit is.

Only from pictures, it appears to be on the right pipe exit from the backbox. I imagine it'll be really close to the bumper as a result.

Interesting the contrast in people's experience with this, was a piece of p1ss for me lol, two minutes a side with no jacking.

I did mine within a few days of collecting the car though, perhaps the connectors get mucky and therefore more difficult to remove as the mile rack up.

Getting less and less inclined to ever bother plugging them back in!

Flipping tell me about it. Drivers side just didn't want to budge. You liking it? Mine is great right now. Bedding in and just sounds so much better.

In all honesty, im sure a stone was trapped in my drivers side one. Because we had to use a flathead with it jacked up and it just popped out like it was releasing something. Passenger side was, like yours, a piece of widdle.

Very noticeable difference, how the car should sound tbh

It does throw an error on he dash when it starts up, a caution and a car symbol in a circle, but it goes away after 5 seconds or so

It doesn't create any errors on the dash mate, the errrors it creates are only visible via OBDII tools. I think what your describing is the Pre Sense check light when you start the car which is totally normal.

So a big thanks to you pioneers for trying this had my new s5 sportback(sorry for the wrong thread section) for 3 days and the thought of having to go back to the dealers with a fault code I wouldn't have bothered attempting without reading the useful advice on this forum. On that note do you think Audi will be that bothered with this fault code when it goes on for any work?

It was easy enough to do but did find the passenger side a bit fiddly as the pressure point for the clip is on top. Sound has been massively improved in my opinion and nice to have some noise at lower rpm although my car only has 400 miles on it at the moment so still very much bedding in.

I will post up some pics in the s5 section later.

That car is stunning Glad you like the sound. It is a big improvement isn't it? I think it will depend on which dealer/franchise it is. They could be arsey. Maybe just ask them before hand?

has no one figured out how to do this via VCDS or OBDeleven yet?

i used to have my flaps open all the time on my 2016 S3(via vcds), night and day difference and didnt throw a code for the dealer to spot.

Congrats, lovely car and awesome colour for an S5 Sportback, I'm not at all biased lol!

Great taste and all that r.a.g how many miles are you in now? Engine feels like it needs to loosen up or tbh needs a remap to unleash what it's capable of

Haha!

Just ticked past the 3k mile mark today on a 300 mile round trip, it's loosening up by the day and both performance and economy are improving, I did a launch control launch at 1000 miles and it felt brisk, did one at again at 2500 and it felt ****** rapid, today's trip showed 38mpg for the 300 miles and I wasn't hanging around! I still think it needs a few more miles, I reckon 5k will be its levelling off point, from there I'll weigh up the performance to see if a remap is on the cards, I like the idea of the ABT box as it doesn't flash the ECU and can be removed, I also like the idea of 425bhp!

Tell me more about this abt box will have to look into this. I'm only getting around 25 mpg it's hard to keep it in eco mode to much temptation

Did you need to seal the plugs and connectors or just left them hanging as is after the disconnect?

On mine I ended up taping the connector and carefully putting it back in the plug so it's held in its original position
