B9 A4/S4 - Little Surprises

Apologies for not seeing your request until now. Cleaning the tips is for me a progressive process. First stage is Autofinesse citrus pre-wash (which I use as part of my washing routine) or WD40. If they don't do the trick I resort to Autosol, a chrome cleaner I used to use on my bike as a lad and which is still sold. If Autosol struggles to remove the baked on deposits, I use a nylon scourer. So far, with my A4 WD40 or the citrus pre-wash have been sufficient.

Cool, not had to move past the pre-wash at the moment, I use Gyeon Bug and Grime, but they the can has only done 400 miles so far, but will keep the other tips in mind!

My next concern is what wheel cleaner to use because of the diamond cut and titanium finish and whether to use Gtechniq C5 or Gyeon Rim to protect them.

I know what chrome is and realise that a nylon scourer will probably not harm it, however my exhaust tips have never needed anymore that a soapy brush or microfibre cloth.
I remember a time when I asked a young trainee to wash a land rover down. Came back to find he was making a good job of getting rid of the muck with a green washing up scourer. Thus the thought of one anywhere near my car makes me shudder..

Then perhaps your post should not have been so cryptic! But to continue the point, I'm pleased to say that the tips on my A4 have not needed the nylon scourer either. If I let the crud build up too much on my A3 I had to resort to the scourer. I'm guessing it was because the A3 pipes were smaller in diameter and got hotter

I can recommend the C5. I'll snow foam then rinse, use iron/ fall out remove and rinse and then two bucket wash. Dirt just falls off. No wheel cleaner required.

I wasn't being cryptic, just making it known in a humorous way I would be horrified to get a scourer within ten feet of my car...

The stronic boxes won't allow the engine go into idle or requested idle mode at speeds of over 100 (kph of course!)

Used the speed limiter for the first time today, set at 40mph, I like the fact that it auto braked the car to maintain the 40mph speed down hill just like cruise control. When I reduced the speed limiter to 30mph, once again it auto braked. Yup the little things,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

On my test drive I noticed that if you rest your finger on the 1-8 buttons on the MMI system without actually pressing them it will give you a preview on the screen of what that button will do if pressed.

Yup, also those 'buttons' are actually just one big button. It just knows which number your finger touched when you pressed it. Quite a nice touch! (pun intended).

not a fan of the auto wipe setting, usually just pressed down for single wipe, found if you press and hold goes double speed...

Question. My footwell lights never used to work while driving, but now they do. Are they meant to??

Yeah, when lights are on.

Anyone know a way to stop the doors locking as you pull away? I can't find an option on the MMI, and I really don't like this. I was able to turn it off in every BMW, Porsche and Mercedes I've had.

Perhaps I'll have to beg the dealers to do it?

I'm pretty sure there's an MMI option to change it?

I can only speak from the position of someone with the extended LED lighting - Footwell lights are off in the preset modes while driving. In the "Individual" mode, you can choose your brightness of three and colour of two of areas foot, lines and surface, footwell stays lit while driving.

I don't know how the options look with non-extended LED.

The kids love messing around with this, I'm currently on Purple and Pink!

I thought the same, but just checked ... nope! nothing.

Strange. It was on both the A4 and S4 I test drive. If I remember rightly it was near to the central locking options?

One thing I havent properly figured out is how to tell if my headlights are on during the day or not (or dusk) when on AUTO>

What's at the top of that list as it looks like it's scrolled down? I was sure it was in that list or one in the previous menu...

doors to unlock> "all" or "drivers door"

Just when you unlock the car not in motion.

There nothing above that though I mean? Looks like the bar on the right is showing more options?

The green light on the switch surround will be on when the headlamps are on...
Its also `on` when the side lights are on...so no help really.
Its something that has bothered me too...that there is not a green light in the dash right in front of you. Very odd omission I reckon.

I was referring to when its set to auto headlamps position, which was basegreen's question. No audi I have driven has ever had a lamp in the dash, can't see the need really..

Nothing about Turing it off in the manual but I think I remember seeing an option via vcds/vcp to change the speed it operates. When I get chance I'll have a look, unlikely to be this weekend though. On husband duties ;-)

Yeah I couldn't see it in the manual either so I wounder if my memory is referring me back to my A3. Looking at the A4 forum in the states they don't have it either but do make a reference about vcds...

+1 confirmation that it's not there, checked last night and like you cuke, would have sworn it was! So, we come full circle, was a popular VCDS mod this back in the day, so much so I think that's why it became an MMI/DIS tickbox. Now it seems to have become hidden again :sob:

Thanks for reply. I don't have extended leds. Never noticed them on then they appeared last week. Today they were gone again ??? I want them back! ☹️. Any suggestions or are they not meant to be on while driving me wonders? Best get the hand book out!
