What have you done to your A4 b6 today?

Is it not the two rear quarter windows, the elements in the glass are not heated SO !

I think the beading on the rear windows is part of the aerial, but I can't find the antenna amplifier board, to see if it's broken/cracked etc.

Today I picked up everything I need to do a full service bar some coolant and gearbox oil

Also fixed my key, only needed a new battery but it's great having the remote working again! The little things eh?

On a side note does anyone know if G13 coolant supersedes G12 and is ok to use in the B6? Everything I've read suggests so but wondered if any gurus thought different?

G13 does supercede G12, on my last visit to the dealer it was G13++. G12 was red/pink depending on strength, the G13 is purple, they can be mixed, http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/c...creenwash/red-antifreeze/?523770522&0&cc5_866

thanks for the answers on the coolant guys!

I've done a full service today, oil, coolant, spark plugs all filters including air and cabin filter. All going well until I discovered oil in the spark plugs :-( Looks like valve cover gasket needs replacing, I'm pretty sure all 6 plugs had oil residue in there, some more than others. Checked prices and it's about £110 for rocker cover gaskets, seems expensive but I guess there are two banks to do rather than just the one!

Very pricey for those gaskets, how about these instead? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROCKER-CO...627451?hash=item35dd185a7b:g:BSIAAOSwPe1UIs0E It says for A8 but looks identical to these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROCKER-CO...898608?hash=item2c7e24bfb0:g:sSoAAMXQPatTHBUk

I'd love to fix my radio reception, but I don't know where the antenna is on an B6 Avant. Does anyone have a guide for finding/removing it? Thanks ;-)

Hmmm.....it was in the link I posted if you read a little further you'd have found this Post>>>>

For those looking for the Antenna for the Avant, the Bentley shows three of them. FM1 is located on the left rear window, FM2 is located on the rear window and FM3 is located on the right rear window. I have the picture from the Bentley, but it doesn't do much good. It looks like the FM1 is located low and to the front of the left window, but beyond that, I can't help

Next post >>>>>The antenna module itself is behind the drivers (left) side trunk panel. You have to remove four bolts on the trunk latch trim piece. Then one Philips screw up where the side trim meets the pillar trim. After that it's the cringeworthy popping out of the trim panel, Hoping nothing breaks.

Ah, sorry. Not reading things very thoroughly is my forte! I've removed the trim piece on the boot, as I've got to replace the wiper motor and boot latch - is the same piece you are talking of, or am I being dopey again? :)

Sorry to double post, but I've been busy today. Fitted my new LEDs in my side repeaters (amazed at the difference over standard bulbs) and (drum roll) debadged my tailgate (Should I remove the Quattro badge, as well?)

So.. Big brakes are coming very soon (about effing time.) and with them I'm changing brake fluid as well because I have a feeling it was never changed, so I'll do the whole lot in one go. New calipers and carriers, new cross drilled rotors, new Brembo pads, braided lines and fresh fluid.
So just grabbed my power bleeder and went to test pressure the brake system..
For a 14 year old car and possibly with the same fluid it had when rolled out the factory it holds pressure 100%..

Hopefully by this time next week I'm having my carriers painted to fit them during the weekend..

SO not today, but at the weekend I changed both my valve cover gaskets, job went great. However, I now have a misfire :-(

Wonder if anyone has any ideas..
Random misfire code on cylinders 4 and 5
I've put new plugs in and swapped leads, misfire stays on 4 and 5

Took it up he motorway and got misfire on cylinders 1 through to 5

I assume it's going to be coil packs, but it seems odd that it was working fine and then a rocker cover gasket now causes a misfire, it's very noticeable and is constant. Idle is fine, but you can feel it misfire, sit at 3k RPM and she seems ok, add load and she misfires, severely down on power obviously too.
CEL flashes when driving or idling after a while, but come to a stop and leave engine on and CEL will go off sometimes,

As I don't think it's leads or plugs my next step will be coils, hoping someone else may have some suggestions?

I've noticed a broken previously bodged crankcase breather pipe, need to order a new one, might renew the whole system to be sure or just delete it.

Ideas or thoughts from anyone? Getting a full VCDS scan tonight, that should give me fuel trim figures to detect a vacuum leak.

It will be the breather pipe, it was probably okay with the bodge but it has been removed and replaced (presumably) or at least disturbed when you did the rocker covers.Had a quick look on Ebay, now I know the kits are mostly China but they're a good price, would be worth a bodge on the old one just now till they arrived? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oil-Breat...646309?hash=item43f8f57b65:g:eh8AAOSwXeJYJVjT

Thanks for the reply, do you really think it'll just be that? Seems so small to have such a large impact, but I hope so, as otherwise it's way too much faut finding for my like haha!

I'll stop by the shop and get some gaffa tape, that should hopefully sort me out until a new one arrives. I'll happily bodge and wait from china, Audi want £35 for just the one piece, I'm not against spending money, but at £35 for a bit of plastic, erm no thanks!

Yeah, it'll be drawing unmetered air through the damaged pipe and then the fuel mixture is all to pot, result = misfires.

So removed old bodge, the pipe is in two pieces! Tapped back up, but still misfiring, I can't say it's not the pipe due to the split but it is tapped up well. Ordered a new one, keeping my fingers crossed when it arrives it works.

Trying coils tomorrow just in case

Check the rest of the Pcv system, they're could be another crack elsewhere, notoriously bad system, at least 1.8t has metal and rubber pcv hoses/pipes. Cost cutting at its best.

Yeah ordered a kit, I'd like to replace with silicone but can't find one suitable sadly

Retrofit double din and couldn't justify the huge cost for an o ut dated satnav, that's more than likely going to end up with my car broken into. So it's a no brainer, buy a tab that's not only 10x more competent but I also now have a tablet to play on. Just need to tidy up the gaps a little.

Got a custom screen and it works as a hands free phone, satnav, radio, spotify, traffic and engine display. All for £200.

@Ralphthemouth - more info. please...
Is the tab 3g/4g? If not, how are you using it as a phone?
I'm doing something similar, using Headunit Reloaded on my tablet which emulates an Android Auto headunit..

Thanks
Mike

It's not a 4g tablet, however, by using an app called 'tablet talk' you can use the tablet as a phone. It connects via Bluetooth. So messages get sent to your tablet, and if you have a bluetooth headset or hands free kit, you can select contacts from the tablet and it rings through your phone which is connected to your hands free kit. It's very handy and it costs I think about £2.50. Worth every penny.

I'm interested to know if you hard mounted it or if it's removable? If you plan to hard mount how have you wired in power, from an ignition feed I' guessing to stop constant power being delivered? Also, was there much funky wiring to be done to get it to work with your speakers? I'm guessing radio and downloads come from your phone?

Fixed my misfire!

Faulty coil pack, thanks to all for the help!

I investigated the PCV system, couldn't find anything obvious and a coilpack is a 5 min swap so thought what have I got to lose and gave it a go, all sorted, I forgot how smooth the engine was, I love it!

Its removable. Concert radio is in the glove box, with aux 3.5mm out into the headphone socket of the tablet. So all sounds play through normal speakers. I have a hard wired usb socket to ignition live behind, so charges while driving and keeps screen on. It is held in by that silver trim which came off the bottom of a broken symphony 2 stereo and is glued onto the front of the climate control. The top of the tab is held behind the cup holder. Only needs a mm or so to hold it tight, but extremely easy to take in and out regularly.

Ah I see! makes it easier that way, keeping the stereo!
What tablet is it and does do the dials integrate with the car? IE the Rev counter, speedo etc?
Also interested in what tab you are using?

Might give this one a go if cheap enough! my stereo is a bit temperamental so i'd like a new one but this option is great too!

Yeah. The dials are part of the torque app via a bluetooth obd2 thingy, do they represent the car, albeit a few seconds delayed. A bit gimmicky but there are enough measurements to make it semi useful.

It's a Samsung Galaxy tab s 8.4 inch. The older version of the tab s2. However, ironically the tab s 8.4 is smaller, width wise, than the tab s2 8.0 inch. It would fit even more snuggly if I didn't have that big rubberised case on it. But it's safer to carry around with it on.

Today I went to install my s4 brakes and had everything done and was putting the wheel back on and the flipping thing not only hits the calipers it rubs like hell..
I don't know how I've done it when I test fitted it before but it had like 5mm clearance and now I need 5mm to clear the calipers..
I got so mad I cannot even put it in words..
I even spent 10m looking @ the thing hoping it would clear by magic..
Anyway.. Gonna have to give it another go tomorrow.
Gonna grind of the 'tips' of the calipers and finally install s4 brakes once and for all..

Here's some pics of the process.

Last week, I bought a £25 VAG scanner. It is FAN-TASTIC !! (off amazon)

Link below;

Amazon product

So far, it does everything it says it does.

Tested loads of VAG based cars, cleared some codes etc..

Great for £25 (ish) if you dont have VCDS.

..You're welcome :p

Actually suits the car well! i'd say paint it to match silver colour of car in my opinion.

I am actually going to leave it this black, my plan if all comes to fruition is to black out the door blades, door mirrors, all grills including chrome to this colour and later the roof I will wrap with a panoramic vinyl. I also going to wrap my interior trim with a carbon wrap. Also will be tinting my windows at a later stage. I am doing lowering springs ( Eibach Pro kit) in May and doing wheels in December.

As I am a lazy ****** hope all comes to fruition. Like I said need to so the lady some love, she deserves it!
