Engine mounts, is there a cheaper alternative than OEM?

Hi all,

I've done a quick search, but haven't found a definite answer and I'm about to board a flight. My mechanic has just phoned me and quoted really high prices for some parts...wanted to ask your advice please.

My engine mounts are leaking on a 1.8T cabriolet... how much would a suitable replacement cost and where can I buy them? I'd rather avoid the cost of expensive OEM hydraulic ones.

Also, my lambda sensor needs replacing, but apparently there are 2? He has quoted £150 per each sensor if going OEM. Is that right? He suggested going for aftermarket ones at half the price.

Cheers for you help

Mike

I was going to get Stern ones for my S4 but they were on back-order so I went for 034 Motorsport Street ones instead. They were about half the price of OEM ones (but that's because they're not electro-hydraulic).

You can get them from WOT Motorsport. It's worth phoning them first though.

I have one from a 2lt a4 if you want it for 20 plus post

I am using B5 versions on mine as both have the sensors and both leaking slightly. Paid £30 after discount for each at ECP.

Going to chop off the external sensor part and plug that back in, to avoid error codes due to it being disconnected. If that does not work I will use a resistor on each.

Cheers for all your responses! Phoned my mechanic after getting off the flight and he said he found some mounts...guess I have to wait and see what the bill is! Certainly not a cheap car to maintain...but absolute joy to druve!

Just looked at them £212 that's more than OEM!!

So can someone shed some light as to what would be wrong with the Febi Bilstien or Meyler alternatives?

A lot of people have mixed feelings about these aftermarket ones, some people saying they are to OE spec, others complaining.

Any feedback would be appreciated as i need to change both mine as well.

As far as I know, the aftermarket mounts are just rubber, the OEM are filled with oil which passes from one side of the mount to the other, hence the sensors on the mount which control the flow!

Hi John,

I am confused now, can someone tell me if the B5 mounts can be used instead of B6 mounts, and the other thing is as well, I have seen so many different model numbers for the mounts I am now in a boot loop!!

I have seen the A6 2.5tdi Hydro Mounts fit an A4 1.8T, A4 3.0Tdi, 2.5Tdi (150 bhp) but try and get me ones that specify that they are for my model and it all goes to *poop*!!

I am going to have a quick look at the engine mount part numbers on my mounts but I have a feeling they are all more or less the same as I cannot see any physical differences! (in the photos)

Please enlighten me and sorry to crash this thread but I would also like to know what the correct part would be for my car.

Cheers

Have you got a ECP part number there please mate?
