What have you done today?

Cleaned and hovered the inside of my car did all the glass and treated the seats forgot how nice it looked in there clean! The pipes for my catchcan arrived today and the can itself was at the post office so managed to get that finished as the dark came! Not noticed any difference but some of the pipes were terrible condition and plenty of stuff that looks like mustard in them so can't be a bad thing! It was slightly tight getting the airbox back in but hopefully I'll order a b5 tip and filter and have another mess with it all.

As it had got dark I had an adjust of my lights could do with doing it properly but they are a lot better!

Quite productive Saturday for me :)

Did a full Avis style clean, similar to ^^Wallm0nkey - all glass, plastics, exterior washed and dried, stone chips 'lipsticked', it was too cold to polish as even the lipstick chip stuff was too hard.

Recently I've removed the SAI pipes (pump left in place) removed the SAI code ;), Got it MOT'd on Wednesday, passed with only slightly correded rear brake pipes and all four tyres need replacing soon (3-4mm all round so not just yet).

After discovering that my steering racks knackered yesterday and still not being quite sure what I can replace it with http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-forum-8l-chassis/210675-1-8-tqs-steering-rack.html anyone? :)

I decided may as well get some other niggly jobs done, fitted the poly dogbone mount on the engine, found out what was making the rattly noise when reversing whilst under their, the heat shield on exhaust had lost some of its nuts and bolts, so have put a couple new ones in it to secure it.Then a little while ago I fixed the rear washer hose under the battery only for it to blow off in the boot, so today thought I would tackle that as well, as it's a job I've been putting off

Out with all the bose sub stuff and cd changer, wasn't actually as bad as I was expecting.

A3 Bose sub removed

To find this

A3 Rear washer hose sub

So put that back together and taped it all up, refitted everything and fixed up the foam stuff for the central locking pump with some gaffa tape as it was broken everywhere, on to test my newly fixed pipe only for the water to come pouring out the boot lock :ermm:

Off with the boot trim and repaired that with a small piece of hose, some tape and a cable tie.

A3 Wiper motor rear

But the water still wouldn't come through, so pulled out the jet and that was blocked, so soaked it in some alcohol and now it's all back working as it should :sm4:

I have been 'sorting' yet another set of 'ready to use' stroker pistons...

Did a test fit of the crank with a rod and piston to check for clearance and the piston never made it to the bottom of the stroke... you can see the mark the squirter made on the piston... if left unchecked you would have a set of damaged pistons, broken squirters (and normally the block too) and have to rebuild all over again...

There are two types of oil squirter... K04 turbo'd engines tend to have a square type while all others have the profiled type

The difference being...
20140301_131114.jpg

20140301_131120.jpg

The profiled type found on the majority of 20v's seems to be what the pistons were designed for...
20140301_132222.jpg

...so a bit of precision dremiling later...
20140301_165538.jpg

Added 1.5mm of extra clearance and widened the groove a bit to ensure enough clearance for the squirters...

Gotta love building engines... (which I do as it happens lol)

changed my cam cover and cam chain adjuster gaskets today. Was a total b*tch as i dont think any of the parts that had to be removed ever had been before - however after much swearing and persistence, 4 hours later they were done. As well as a new OEM DV as mine was definitely gone, sounds so much better now --- might be just me or does renewing a broken DV restore some lost horses? cos it feels like it builds boost a lot better!!

Also, didn't use any gasket sealant on the main cam cover gasket as i was told it's not necessary by someone at Audi when i collected the bits today. All seems fine! I did use it on the cam chain adjuster flat seal and half moon seal though. Fingers crossed no more leaks! it used to smoke from the exhaust manifold when started as it burnt off the oil that had leaked.

Also, got some leather care for the seats! that's monday's job though - the interior!

Replaced rear indicators as mine were flashing white and replaced the spark plugs for some ngk iridiums (spelling?). Nice easy jobs, sparks looked pretty old.

Discovered my power steering fluid is really low.... But on the plus side the amp, double din head unit and every panel back on the car, all sorted! Tomorrow to sort the Milltek out so it doesn't rub against the rear bumper :)

Brake pedal switch and dipstick tube fitted today. Thermostat and coolant bought for next week.

Boot struts removed to be sent back. Way too harsh and slammed the boot open putting excessive loads on the boot hinges. Note to self, £12 struts on eBay are cheap for a reason lol

Ah that's made me feel a bit better. My "donor" engine is an AGU but I will get the machinist to check regardless.

Yesterday I changed the radiator and some coolant pipes on my brothers 306 and discovered that the S3 now has a clicking left cv joint :(

(A bit late) but last weekend had new singlemass flywheel and clutch kit fitted, replacement gearbox, along with red dogbone mount fitted, feels a lot better!

Next on the list is to replace cam cover gaskets, plugs and the DV/N75 pipes.

Oh, and I managed to give it a proper wash and clean inside and out on Friday, forgotten how good it looked clean.

just been out and changed the pollen filter and temp sensor :) will be finishing the service tomoz when the other half gets back from work, then next month will be haldex service and oil pickup pipe change.

took 2 mins :) theres a little flap on the scuttle pannel that lifts and you can see the pollen filter, unclip it and take it out and put new one it and put it back :)

Swapped my adjustable tie arms from top to bottom to correct the toe in. Knackered a set of Pirelli P Zero in 1500 miles :(

Drove 150 miles to get a new key cut and coded to my car... After about 10 miles my indicators decided they didn't want to work any more so looked like a douche the entire way. Reckon it's the hazard switch so going to be off to the dealers to grab one. Got the new key though :D

Well my propshaft was making a funny noise so decided to replace it earlier DSC 0006 here's a little spot the difference photo

Ouch! How much toe was you running?

1.4mm left & 2.7mm right. Camber 0.5 neg both sides. Outside edge has totally gone.

Looks much better even by eye with the tie bars swapped round, getting it setup on a hunter machine next weekend.

Fitted new rear brake caliper, adjusted handbrake, fixed oil leak, next thing to do next week is to get my facelift headlight and hid kit fitted

Blacksmoke remap 162 bhp drives nice and smooth pulls much better hoping mpg improves a little

Sold my Xcessive inlet manifold to Mr Turbo god Beachbuggy :blownose::bye:

But received this today :jump::racer: and also a IE pulley as i have a Catcams pulley which are very poor with a spring pin for its keyway

fitted some pfl S8 rims with ps3's on my 2001 S3 with 20 and 25mm H&R adapters then fixed the rear washer pipe under the airbox, had to replace the rear wiper motor with a 04 seat leon one when i discovered the S3 one had the washer jet snapped off and then replaced the broken armrest with one i got in the breakers, productive evening!

I hope a bad one will do for now

Did you use hub adapters to fit those?

Today, I had my 4 wheel alignment done after my front end refresh, car feels great again, though I haven't test it to its limit because it's damp. First impressions is it's holding the road well, but steering feels heavier than normal and the cars following the camber on the road, low tread on the tyres is most probably the contributing factor though.

Got it aligned today with the adjustable tie bars moved to the bottom, lined up perfectly.

The toe was way out with the bars at the top, looks like it is far better to fit them to the bottom:
