It finally happened, DPF !

A4 B7 2007 170PS 2.0 TDI 70k miles

After a few flashes of the DPF warning light coming on and off in the past 3 and half years, it came on yesterday, along with the EML light and it chucked it.

It's currently sitting in my drive, will start for a few seconds get chocked and stall.

I suspect the DPF is blocked, needs cleaned out along with a check of the sensor to ensure it's not faulty. (my mechanic mate is locating a vagcom in the first instance)

My Q is where is the DPF located just off the turbo within the engine bay or is it part of the centre section of the exhuast ???

Anyone got any pics

Any help appreciated cheers

Hi mate im not 100% but think its somewhere near the manifold/engine and not actually in the centre section of the exhaust.

Im personally looking at having it removed, however i have never even seen the DPF WARNING LIGHT before as i tend to do long trips every so often of 400 miles or more which keeps it clear.

Im assuming you dont use the car much or dont do many long trips for it to become blocked? or perhaps its just had it!, personally i think they are a waste of time and money, if mine does go then i wont replace it i will have it removed and then remapped without it.
 
I do mostly motorway miles (100 miles per day on average) but recently I've been sitting in the Motorway carpark for a few miles, I believe this to be the culprit !

Hmm not sure about that mate, if your doing 100 miles a day that should in theory be keeping it clear!

400-500 a week is alot of miles, perhaps its a sensor problem or like i said earlier perhaps it has just packed in.

Does your car even start at the moment?, perhaps you could leave it running on your drive and rev the tits of it to burn the soot away (just an idea).

If your a member of the AA and have homestart, thats the first thing i would do as apparently they can fix blocked DPFs.
 
I've had it recovered to my driveway due to it chucking it on my way out the other day, DPF warning came on, very quickly after that the glow plug symbol started to flash, restricted performance seconds later the EML came on and it chucked it. All this happened within 30 seconds of the DPF warning happening didn't allow me to regen the DPF.

Car starts, runs for a few seconds then stalls.

The AA recovered it and due to it being a VAG and an EML issue, they can't read the car and therefore won't attempt to fix, only recover it to the nearest Audi garage.

I await my Technician mate to turn up with a VAG com and get stuck in, he suspects the ERG is stuck or a Pressure sensor failure.
 
Turns out it's actually a HP fuel pump failure, the gasket has failed and has been mixing oil with the excess fuel returned to the fuel tank, which then in turn gets dragged back round the system, vicious circle.

New pump
Removal of fuel tank and clean up
Clean out fuel lines
Remove injectors check/clean
New Fuel Filter

I'm now £500 lighter.

The DPF light is on due to the DPF being 59.4% full once it's up and running again this can be regen'd....Hopefully !
 
It's also wrecked the dpf/cat add £1,500 to the above

I'm now £2k lighter

No delete pipe for the A4 170ps, Leon and Golf yes.

By the time one was specifically fabricated and the recoding carried out there is no guarantee that my dash won't still light up like a xmas tree, potentially false economy.

No DPF's in the UK 10 working days should be here start of next week, along with my letter to Audi.
