I cant see the difference! Loving this thread .... keep the updates coming
Your MAF seems to have been stolen!
you can get the paddles in black or silver - if you have the silver ones and want black i'll do you a swap lolComing along nicely alex. I like how the flappy paddels are black. Ive thought about wrapping mine to get similar effect haha
Sounds like a great result! Would be amazing to see it in action!
Sounds good! Had a chance to get on some back lanes yet?
It doesnt pop or fart like most of the DSGs I've heard...it just lets off really loud bangs.
Quality! If my wife wasn't out tonight leaving me looking after the little one, I'd be out giving mine a spank now. I've never driven mine so much. You planning on keeping yours as a daily? I'm sure with the new DSG box it'll be much easier to do so than before.
With a car like this, I'd just start showing up to RR days and troll the "big boys"
Do you plan on some track time with the handling improvements?
What counts as "big boys".....LOL
Haha, well, the RS crowd for one
There are some big RS boys about too
@S3Alex Does this mean I'm putting you down for the rr day on 20th may
Great news that the car is back on the road Alex .
Hadn't got time yesterday, but just got the car back.....what a huge step they've made this time.
Suspension and handling:
The swap from kW Clubsport to Bilstein B16 has made a big difference, but that's also with quite major changes to suspension geometry, getting the centre line of the suspension travel more in line with the centre of the tyre's rolling area.
Also the tyre/rim sizing has radically changed, from 245 x 40 x 18,to 235 x 35 x 20,so a lot of changes, but overall the car is much better planted and stable, and the steering feels lighter and more direct, without a lot of the vagueness from before.
Traction feels better, and the overall suspension settings feel harder, but Andy did say he'd set the rear pretty hard,to offset any tendency to squat under hard acceleration...more of that later....
Gearbox and engine:
On this occasion Andy didn't reprogram the DSG,but did do a lot of work on programming the engine and the torque ramping on gear changes, plus gear cut times.
He's programmed different torque and rpm limits for each of the gearbox modes,I.e. 6200rpm and lower torque in D mode,6800rpm in Sport mode, and 7300rpm plus full torque in Manual.
All those with maximum of 1.8bar boost.
R8 plugs and coil packs.
MAF is gone, with the engine programmed to run off MAP etc.
That adds up to about 550bhp but with maximum torque from 3500 rpm all the way out to 7300rpm,and none of the massive spool times we previously had, when the engine wouldn't come on boost till around 4000rpm,and didn't peak until near peak rpm,so Race Developments head work has done exactly what Tim said it would.....massively improved breathing even at low boost and rpm.
In D mode, the car will run from 1200rpm,and produce boost from 2000rpm,and is completely driveable in 7th gear at 20mph.
That I think is pretty amazing, considering what the engine is capable of.
Launch mode was pretty brutal, complete with ALS to build boost to about 1bar prior to launch.
I didn't try this but their logging gave 0-60 of around 3s or slightly less.
It needs to go back in a while to have the first oil change after rebuild, and then the boost and programming can be changed again.
The way it pulls on boost is amazing compared even to before....combining the DSG with the engine and software has changed the way it drives utterly.
There is no boost loss between shifts, and flat shifting is seamless.....apart from the bang from the exhaust and the fact that it goes even faster, you wouldn't know.
Totally pleased.....so for anyone thinking of either Syvecs,or DQ500....go and do it.
But then it'll be off the road for another x months!I second what I've highlighted in red - its an easy enough swap if already DSG (gearbox, transfer box, driveshafts, flywheel, transfer box bracket, oil and wiring - you need Quattro oil return pipe if you want to keep the oem look and fit or bend the pipe slightly lol)
Alex's project has got me tempted to look at doing an rs3 engine swap to mine however! (5 pot warble)
Them wheels are truly stunning, saw them on andys TT and it looked epic
TBH it took about 2 days for the swap then about a week of wiring torture when I forgot the park/neutral pin lol!But then it'll be off the road for another x months!
It truely sounds awesome mate, I can't even imagine what animal the beast has transformed into! Glad you've got her back and are enjoying it, as always patience pays off.
Andy and his team have done a superb job
Once it's run in a bit and has its oil change he says there's more in the engine but right now I'm still smiling.
He's going to set up a range of maps with different boost limits and change a few other things at that time.
Good stuff, I highly rate them as well so thanks for recommending them!
Nice one, must be fun knowing that you're really enjoying it now and there's still yet more potential to be released.
I saw it in the flesh last week when I was there and it looked great, nice stance sitting perfectly, sounded meaty as well when they were moving it so can only imagine what she sounds like on WOT.
It was comfortably quicker than an AMG63 and similar before, and it is rather faster than it was now.....thing is,it's not comparing like with like, and a heavily modified RS(for instance Andy's TTRS) could well be faster.
It's all to do with traction,power/weight etc etc
And....perhaps most importantly, being sensible with it.
As usual...I'd like to but I'm likely to be in Germany at the time....
Berlin...my favourite city.
