The other half won’t be happy with the smaller boot. But then she said the saloon looked better, so I can blame her when she has to carry a child cos the buggy with its dirty wheeels won’t fit any more :) win win

Yes I totally agree but the ballon on the Rs3 is £24513 the 8R is £13890 .
I always buy a car with the intention of owning it out rite at the end .
I could stomach a £14k balloon 25k on the other hand not so much .

I've looked at HP for the Rs3 30K deposit £450 for 60 months
I didn't pay £450 a month for my S3 and my mortgage combined

Fair do’s mate

I think facelift time will be late 2023/early 2024. I suspect that is also A3 facelift territory but RS3 might be into 2024....(or...well.... I won't say it)
I think wont be anyfacelift or.electric one

After viewing 8Rs with cloth and leather I'd 100% spec leather . An exhaust can be added later the leather on the other hand can't .

This is true, but never understood why leather is always so expensive with VW

That quote/balloon was for a standard car mate.
Just checked the balloon for the Vorsprung I was quoted £29711 with 22k deposit and £292 a month .
You'll get some sort of a discount as well may not be much but it's something

I believe the saloon has the bigger boot compared with the hatch, in terms of litres at least…

I’ve thought that too… previous gen leather looked terrible (almost plasticy) and wore (got saggy quickly) badly too… for the money it was terrible really.

Hopefully the mk8 leather option warrants the cost - I would rather spend that money on the akra if it was an either/or situation.

Just as an aside, I’m finding it quite amusing that this thread is basically anything goes discussion only loosely linked to the rs3 in places.

Quite entertaining

Electric car is the reason ;).

audi can & will sell the RS3 to 2030 as it’s a big profit maker for them. No more engine research, just tweaks so I see absolutely no reason why there won’t be a Petrol run out face lift RS3.
We’re only in 2021 so loads of time left.
No idea why you think electric would affect this - we are 8.2 years away from prohibiting new fully combustion engine cars & 13.2 years from hybrids.

yeah I get all that but many of the other cars in the range off set this and allow them to still sell gas guzzlers lol ... so they should (let’s hope) continue to offer us a full fat RS3 facelift in this century :icon thumright:

I think/feel that we have less time than that... the Euro 7 emissions/engine rules as far as I have read could be quite draconian. Obviously nothing has been passed by EU Parliament yet...(I know, I know we aren't in EU now). But as I am given to understand there could be quite a cull of ICE vehicles as these regulations come in around 2025. So I think that is what @Mastachaz and I are thinking that they will chop RS3 as 5 cylinder at this point in time.

I know they can offset for EU fines on each model but as I understand it, they have a sliding scale and by 2025 it is going to be quite a restriction. ie I think the average last year was 95 g/km for each car but it drops towards 75 g/km by 2025. (Although each manufacturer has a weighted average to take into account weight of cars eg VW I think needed to get under 102g/km with their range but Fiat was 98 g/km (or some such figure)

So from my point, I am pretty sure the RS3 has a 3/4 yr life span (from 2021) as a 5 cylinder. Mercedes have ditched V8 for 2litre hybrid in the new C Class and you wonder how many more could follow that.

Yes I saw saloon had larger boot, that is a win for the saloon drivers...I have always had a hatchback (since my first car). I that I would miss the versatility if I went saloon (although I do love the A3 saloon shape). Also I really like the idea of 40/20/40 rear seats....60/40 is such a bind sometimes, lol.

could we see a hybrid RS3 then as a facelift ?

Im hoping F1 develop 100% bio-fuel as that could be a game changer for ICE cars.

Electric cars are just soul-less to me.

I wonder if vw will throw in some more colours for the facelift R?

We’ve moaned at the poor colour options for the 8y but the mk8 has a choice of only 3 colours

There may also be a case where Audi decide to cut some of the bigger engined higher CO2 emitting cars so they are seen to be doing the correct thing?

its damn good value & a lot of performance for sure.
If you can live with a 4 pot then it has to be a major contender.
Entire Golf range messed up though with slow touch screen and daft ideas like off button for stop start hidden away in the menu's.

Yes agree, (Try finding the ESC Sport/OFF function) But, you can set 4 (I think) shortcuts, this allows just a single swipe down of the screen to show your favourite buttons, not as good as a switch/button but better than swiping the screen for a couple of minutes

So managed to go and see a launch edition today, crazy how similar they are to the vorsprung, not much change at all. This one had the pan roof, HUD, red calipers to name a few.

I couldn’t believe how wider it is compared to pictures. Even the “horrible steering wheel” was not to bad. And there is alcantara sections on the door cards as standard which I didn’t know it had. Breaks up all the plastic. Wasn’t one thing I didn’t like. Although my girlfriend picked up on how much quieter it is compared to my last one (though that was stage 2 and decat)

'IF' the hybrid was mild and went between engine and gearbox I dont think the car would be wide enough to fit it in with a transverse engine? 5 cyl engine although a clever design with all the cam drive at the gearbox end is still a wide engine ( a cyl wider than a 4 obviously) we struggled to get one into my lads Golf Mk2 :)

I reckon a face lift will be a power hike and cosmetics. But they would need to speed up the RS4 & RS6 first. The new RS3 although faster, has in effect been dialled down by not having a power increase. The flagship/most expensive models always need to be quickest.

They've made it quicker with a few tweeks to STronic and launch + the rear diff now being able to shuffle the power, but also made the engines mid range stronger whilst 'limiting' it to a headline 400hp, these days they tend to do that by closing the throttle to reduce engine output

Each to their own but that sounds dreadful lol. Cant get to grips with the black surround at all, maybe different when I get to see one in person. I like a fair few aspects of the 8Y but I much prefer the grille from the 8V Facelift, hands down. Sure I will like it in good time, wasn't a fan of the M3 and 4 grilles, but I think they look great IMO.

Audi will supply combustion engine cars to 2033 then :icon thumright:
I'd assume that that means that they'll be shifting to hybrids only long before then as they taper off, with the most polluting engines first to die (S/RS models). I'd be surprised if they milk the RS3 beyond the next five years at the most, but I'm more than happy to be wrong!

As others have said, likely to be facelift, and probably a few “performance” editions across the RS range as they have done before ahead of milk float and wind powered transport . Probably need to release the performance models on the larger RS models 1st otherwise the RS3 will seriously smash them

I wonder how it stacks up on moving to electric on “standard” cars vs RS products?

If we are talking total volume of pollutants I would have expected doing the bulk of cars before the smaller numbers of RS cars would have a greater impact?

Ie if they focus on bringing emissions down on 90% of the range they could leave the RS cars alone (to an extent)?

Perhaps wishful thinking, but meh…

One thing is for sure, if there is a face lift RS3 with the same 2.5 litre 5 pot engine and no batteries it will be a car to spec up to perfection as it really could be a long term keeper - possibly indefinitely.
