Hi guys,

The water pump went on the car tonight, ive had it towed to my local garage who always look after me. Just wondered what sort of price im gonna be looking at for it replacing?

Cheers

Dan

All garages are different but that is what i charge so the price might be a little different pal

Like i say these guys are always good to me (mates rates) so hopefully that will be about right.

Cheers

how do mean went? as in the bearing collapsed? has it caused the cambelt to slip?...

no mate luckily the cambelt hasnt slipped, engine was still running fine when i pulled up. i shut it off asap. it was just making a horrendous noise and spewed coolant everywhere.

I am assuming slightly that its the water pump but the mechanic i got to tow me home and then the AA guy who took it to the garage both said the same thing straight away.

I think I paid around £450 at the Audi stealer earlier this year when my waterpump failed. Included the full cambelt kit, tensioners, auxilary belts, water pump and a few other bits and pieces.

Thanks Coyote,

Well im certainly not paying audi labour rates so i should be ok. 3 weeks before my holidays too! perfect timing!

You do get 2 years parts and labour warranty at Audi and the possibility of a shiny new car to drive in while yours is getting fixed. I think the cambelt kit and waterpump on there own were under £400 at the stealers.

I phoned around all of the local Vag specialists and the cheapest I found was only about £50 cheaper and a 30 mile drive away.

Well, they are on with the job now! ill let you know how it goes lol!

I think i just needed a bit of reassurance that it wasnt gonna be £500+

Job Done.

Pump, Belt and tensioners- £208 incl vat.

Very relieved!

Apparently the water pump had ceased solid and the belt was very close to giving up so i have been lucky all considered.

Ill sleep better tonight than last night.

208 ****** hell!!!! id go get mine done for shits and giggles at that price!

Acording to my local vag mechanic the cost price of the cambelt kit is about 80 quid and the water pump is just over 20 quid.
