A few m8's now have had turbo failures, and I was wondering if this is normal to the 1.9 tdi at a certain point in their life.
Is it a lack of lubricant or some other mechanical fault.
One friend chipped his car out twice from 140 to 170 and was told that because he had not increased the psi in the turbo it would likely fail again before long.
Not sure on how true that would be.
On the other hand I know people who have never had a problem with their turbo's including the daughter's 1.9 2002 tdi sport which has done 225,000 now.

Define turbo failure?... its common for the VNT to choke up causing overboosting...

Derv turbos run high boost as standard...

I wouldn't see the turbo as a consumable type item like a clutch or brake pads. I wouldn't say that TDI turbos are bound to fail at some point if they're cared for with regular oil changes and most importantly warming up and cooling down (though the majority probably don't bother)

My 1.9TDI is about to hit 200k on what I believe is the original turbo, clutch and flywheel and pulls very strongly throughout all the gears.
