Heres the RS3 that I ordered back in February and then cancelled.....

Kinda glad I cancelled as I really dont like those wheels.

Im surprised they still took it in though.....

No mate.
I ordered, then decided to change the options to black pack and graphite coloured wheels.
However, whilst I was deciding on exactly which options I should tie down.....B and O, supersport seats, etc.....I got more and more p!ssed off with the rip off cost of options at Audi.

Considering you get almost nothing back for them on trade in, I decided I couldnt stomach the loss and cancelled the order. - I was paying cash, not leasing......

Dealer was fine, cancelled without fuss....or so I thought! However, now they have the car, they must have just let it run through, knowing they could sell it.

That's what my dealer said any rs3 that got cancelled they just brought through anyway as they knew they would sell them in whatever spec

Apart from perhaps Nardo with silver trim ;)

TX.

I actually like that. Not normally a fan of dark/black wheels. The Alu Pack actually suits it. Oh for a lottery win.

The interior let's the car down badly,2 options off being a cracking car ie lunar and chrome roof rails,as for getting nothing for the options come trade in time?don't trade it in,sell it privately end of,l still think you regret not getting one other wise you wouldn't be on this side of the forum? You or anyone has got to go that little bit extra to get a RS3 and that entails delving into ones finances a bit more

I know where your coming from jassy....

I ordered it with the black interior as current car is lunar and fancied a change!

Ive just got to that point in my life where I have woken up and realised how many tens of thousands of pounds I have thrown away on cars......I look after them from day one and come trade in time, they are still like brand new.....it means the second owner gets all of the benefits of an immaculate, sympathetically driven car.

Well, Ive decided Im going to keep the S3 as it ticks all the boxes. Might try and hold on to it for at least 3 years and see where we go from there........although never say never......

I would have loved an RS3, but figured it simply wasnt worth my S3 PLUS £16k......it is an epic car, but its not a year old S3 plus £16k epic!!........mind you, I reckon if I walked into Aberdeen Audi today and went to buy it, they would want nearer £18500 plus mine.......ouch!!

Wise words, the RS3 is better but not that cash difference better, I think the S3 is the best value performance Audi on the market.

Too many people use words like "upgrade" and its "only £xx / month more"..........live in a cash world then you realise the actual cost and that it needs justifying. In 2 years time the S3 will still be fast enough, reliable enough, smart enough then look around for something that is worth the difference.

Dealers rely on people's wants not needs, once you get the balance right then life is better/cheaper/nicer i reckon.

I do realise what you're saying but a RS3 is the car for me,and yeah it will cost me £120 a month more plus deposit than my S3 but at least l will feel it's worth it, l don't feel that way about the S3

And I understand you.
As long as people are aware of the financial implications of borrowing money to buy a depreciating asset and then repeating that process long before the asset has been well used, if not then it does not make financial sense at all and you are just keeping dealers in business and enabling canny folks to buy lightly used immaculate 12-18month old cars.

I will have a wee bet of 1 Scottish pound.........you won't keep your RS3 for the warranty period as by then the next thing will have come along that you feel is worth it - be it the next RS3 or TTRS or whatever ;) I would rather rag the cr4p out of my warrantied S3 and keep £120*36 (+deposit) for the next one which I would make darn sure is the right one.

I will keep my S3 (which is fine for the way I use it.......not exciting, not a dream car, not looked after but effective) until the warranty is up then start looking about for the next 'take me to the airport car'.

p.s. as per the OP, £16k down the tube in 12months for a 300bhp fast hatch is nuts, you would be better off hiring a select car from AVIS or restoring a 205GTi !!

I think we need to remember that for many of us, our cars are our hobby. Family and friends are always saying why don't you save money and get a cheaper car as it's just for getting me from A to B. That's not the point though. It's what I enjoy and am willing to spend more than the average joe on it.

Thing is though, you'll still be in an S3 when an RS3 is a lot more desirable.

@jassyo06 you're in Punta Cana. Go to the casino! Or do some Scuba Diving. Got my first PADI Open Water award there. Never followed it up, wish I had. The weather can be beautiful sunshine one minute then someone turns on the tap the next. If it's any consolation it's now p1ssing down here.

Yes but you will be in an S3 with 16 THOUSAND POUNDS in your pocket.....thats the point here.

Maybe if I leased, I could justify changing. However, I deal in pound notes only.
To withdraw £16k of them out of my bank to take me out of my S3 and into an RS3 is what scuppered the deal.

I am simply sick of lining dealers pockets and giving them an immaculate year old car which they then sell for £3-4k more than they gave me. They wont have to do a thing to any car I trade in, they are always immaculate and maintained perfectly......

Msdmjb's comments at post 15 are absolutely spot on. The S3 is plenty quick enough and looks good. Apart from the totally EPIC soundtrack, the RS3 isnt exactly a massive leap ahead of the S3.

I say that to myself everyone I start her up and she lets out that burble..Not. Everyone had their opinion, but I've always dreamed of owning an RS.
Ps. Why pick an S3 for a 'going to the airport' car? Surely a A3 Sport would have done the trick?? Just saying

Or you could get an A3 S Line and have more in your pocket. Or an RS6 and have even less in your pocket. Or an R8 and have even less in your pocket. It's all relative really. Simple enough. It's all down to affordability.

RS models are very different to S models. Looks, sound, performance and how they generally are perceived by others. Hence the price increase / or in your eyes, the 16k in your pocket. I tested the S3 and wasn't impressed, it felt weak. Tested the RS3 and it blew me away and I'm happy to pay the extra to have a much superior car. I wouldn't buy an S3 as it's just not that special enough in my eyes - no wow factor.

Well, I dont really want to get into a big debate here, as, what many have already said....its down to personal choice.

For me personally, I dont think the RS3 looks very different to the S3 at all - certainly most none Audi types wouldnt see much difference. The interior is 99% identical and apart from front grilles/rear exhaust the exterior isnt very different.

Performance? I test drove an RS3 and was a little bit underwhelmed.....it isnt that much faster than an S3.
Sound? Yes yes, yes.....the RS3 sounds stupendous and to me and many others, the sound is the number one reason to choose one over any other hyper hatch.

Like I say, Im not knocking the RS3 at all, its an AMAZING car when compared to anything from any other brand....its just not as amazing when compared to an S3. Apart from the sound!!

If it had been a bit more of a leap over the S3, the car I cancelled would have been sitting on my driveway right now.

I for one, like most S3 owners am very very happy with my car. It ticks all the boxes and is as quick as anything out there in day to day use on British roads.
I dont have any suspension bounce issues (that many mention) although I had massive issues with suspension bounce on my m135i - so I can understand why people want rid if their cars suffer from this. That was the main reason for ditching the bmw.
I dont drive hard enough round bends for understeer to be an issue .....although it appears this is worse in the RS3...

Anyway, I digress......The RS3 is a stunning sounding car and Im a little bit jealous at the thought of those of you who get to experience it every day......however, when I think about the one that got away.....I never think about the performance/looks.....all I ever think about that I will miss is the sound....

Each to their own but in my eyes that extra outlay is worth every penny.

It's a very different car. Looks wise, the S3 is too much like an S Line in my eyes. Give me that 2.5 litre 5 pot any day!

I'm currently in a Golf R. It's a stunning everyday car and boy does it go round corners well. It's also rapid (had some tweakery) but the looks, inside and out, are a bit bland and it sounds really poor...I'm shocked at how bad the sound is. The RS3 will hopefully right those wrongs.

I'll be honest, I've never had more comments about my car than this one, even in such a short time of ownership. In petrol stations, car parks, even when I was pulled over by the police for a 'look'.
People who know about cars have an inherent respect for any RS. Always have and always will. That what sets it apart from the rest.

Agree with a lot of Kugamans comments but not all.
I think theres a big difference in looks between RS3 and S3-Its what made me want to change from my S3.I think the S3 looks way too conservative for a really great and rapid car.I think its looks don't match the hot performance(the S3 that is).I agree with the performance not being massively noticeable and thats a complement to the S3.
Luxury goods can never be justified on a pound for pound value basis-like a 50 quid bottle of wine can never be 10 times as good as a decent £5 bottle or an expensive watch, expensive shoes, etc.
It certainly aint sensible to change cars as often as we do but its good fun and as long as you can still keep and feed the family then carry on I say-it keeps our economy going.

Not really how its working around our way. No damage to cars or thefts in the last 13 years in the number of houses nearby. Until last couple of months when a new Golf R has had its mirrors nicked (£1500 to replace!) and an RS3 was broken into. Nice of them to walk past my A3 Sline 8P and leave it alone. These cars need a garage!

Irrelevant what model designation it is or for that matter the make, they will steal anything that takes there fancy like my Focus ST and S3...somebody tried to steal my car about 4 weeks ago

You know what.... I probably had the same sort of opinion as Kugaman when I owned my S4. I kept saying that I couldn't see or justify the difference between my car and an RS4, hell I even had it tuned so that I could say that it had the same power as an RS4 blah, blah, blah. But at the end of the day my car was not an RS.
I have owned my RS3 less than a week, somehow I seem to have covered nearly 500 miles in it and I have absolutely loved each mile, my two kids who didn't pay much attention to my lovely S4 suddenly want to come with me on every journey, even just to get ****** petrol!
Like Radman, I have been stopped in car parks by people just wanting to look inside the car and people at McDonalds drivethru wanted me to rev the engine to hear the exhaust sound. Passengers in cars that are passing me on the motorway take pictures of the car with their phones as they go by. This is somethig that I have never experienced before.
While I accept the S3 is a good car and no doubt the economics of owning one make good sense to some people, owning an RS is different. Why? Because they are special and it wasn't until I actually owned one did I really realise it. It goes beyond just the price difference!
