Strange rear light issue

Hi all I have a 2003 B6 A4 1.9tdi that recently has started doing strange things with the brake lights.

Nothing has changed since I have owned it, but if the lights are on and I press the brake the brake lights stay on. However if the lights are off there is no issue.

Any ideas please

Iirc, there's a sensor under the pedal, clutch maybe has 1 too, check that for sticking, they do go faulty, it may not be apparent without a test meter, thats 1 thing to check.

Brake pedal switch failure. Very common problem & only about £10 for a genuine part.

Not 100% sure, When they stuck on are they at 100% Brightness or a bit dim?

It can vary, but mostly bright tbh
