So I left my car on the road and some tosser has keyed it all the way across. Images below.

I got a quote from Chipsaway and they charge £120 per panel for it to be resprayed. I believe only 1 panel needs to be done. Has anyone had any experience with them? Should I go elsewhere? Just worried about the finish not matching the rest of the car. I assume if I go to Audi they will charge a lot more? Thanks.

audi usually dont have their own body shops, they use an approved body shop. Id ring audi, find out who their approved body shop is and then give them a call.

    Utter cretins. Absolute oxygen thieves.

Firstly, depending on how deep the scratch is, there may be a chance it could be made 95% better by having a go with a DA or a rotary polisher. Some cretin did this to my current car when it was just a week old. Every panel from tail light to headlight. I had an angry morning with my DA polisher and noone apart from me can see it! I'd much rather try that than have new paint.

Failing that, I would find out a locally recommended bodyshop. Chipsaway and the like are too hit and miss imo.

Horrible to see this mate, sorry.
I’d go for a quote at your dealership anyway, it won’t do any harm.
The dealership we use has its own body shop but, as mentioned above, many don’t.
Although I’ve had Chips Away out to quote things in the past it’s only been wheels, and even then they could do them do to their design.
    Good luck

What an absolute scumbag, sorry to see this. Happen to me a few years back on a BMW alpina, totalling gut wrenching when you realise it has been done.

I know, i seriously don't get why people do this, i mean seriously whats the point.

I still need to wash the car and see how bad it is but looks like its pretty deep, I will try and get some quotes from some approved bodyshops. Cheers.

Chips away probably vary from site to site, however my local one I've used about 5 times (between myself and my dad) and they've done a superb job each time. Fixed a huge dent in my old fiesta and you would never have known. Others suggestions of asking who Audi use is a good suggestion.

You have my deepest sympathy. Utter morons!

A good test to tell whether scratches are capable of being polished out is to splash them with soapy water. If the scratches disappear when they’re wet they are only in the clear coat, and they can probably be polished out.

Wet sanding 3000grit plus a machine polishing using a cutting compound will reduce the damage but sadly it won't remove it

You could get lucky with it being polished, I had an almost perfect arc on my bonnet almost as bad and it was polished out by Barons BMW under Ausi instruction, cant see it now. I was so surprised as it looked white in the scratch (Panther black car)
Also I cant believe that these idiots walk the earth... I was at my local Tesco a week or so ago and a guy parked up in his Ferrari 488 (Gleaming red) I overheard a middle aged woman say "someone should ****** key that" I was gobsmacked at the jealous moron as she has no reason to say it.

Absolute morons! This has happened to me before with a golf years ago.

What i would say is this.. i have had a previous company car repaired using the cheaper chips away method or the mobile repairers and the repair NEVER lasts.

I had a Honda for three years, within 6 months of having it someone dinged the front corner.. my company got someone out to repair it (we are talking a graze down to the bumper plastic) and during my time with the car the repair had to be redone 3 times as the lacquer and paint kept peeling, i wouldn't mind if i was washing it everyday but it was lucky to be washed once per month!

Thanks guys. I found an Audi approved body shop that has got good reviews so will be taking it down there this week for a quote.
I know they will charge more but at least i know the finish will be decent.

It is normally parked in the driveway with a floodlight but circumstances beyond my control meant I had to park it on the road. It has been parked on the road for a few weeks before when it was just a year old and I had no issues. I guess its all luck as this can happen to anyone at anytime.

Make sure you're sat down when you read the quote!

Can't you find a decent independent?

It's more than likely that Audi will sub contract the work out to an independent anyway, they'll just be approved due to some business deal.

I actually found them myself rather than going to Audi, they just happened to be Audi Approved. I will get a quote from Audi too to see what they charge.

The only way to have that repaired is to have the scratch sanded and then painted and blended into the paintwork...not a cheap repair and I suggest you have a qualified/recommended body shop do the repair. Paint blending into the surrounding area is an art form

People are just jealous scum. Happened to my A3 when it was 6 weeks old. They did from front wheel arch to rear in 2 big scratches.

I got it done by a trusted local for about £400 and fine to this day.

Shame we're not allowed to swear on here so I can say what I'm thinking when I see stuff like that. I have two stories regarding similar things.

    1. At work I park my car in a place where it sits happily on its own in a middle space. I'd had a week before some tit put a scratch on the door about a foot long. Car was sitting right under a CCTV camera but rather conveniently it hadn't been working that week.

    2. Someone scuffed my A3 in a supermarket car park. When I put it for a service I asked the guy if he could get their smart repair person to take a look at it. They took it to a body shop instead and I got a quote for £730 a few days later! I had a fella polish it out and he charged me 20 quid.

Washed my car today and nearly every panel has been done. Why do jealous people feel the need to damage other people's stuff, rather than work harder and get themselves something nice.

I'm now going round at work wondering which one of these scrotes I need to kill...

It's awful isn't it. Happened to me at the end of 2015. Keyed 4 times over parking on a side road, that someone had decided that was `There` parking space even though they actually lived a street down.

4 deep gouges out of my paintwork. Thankfully to only one side of the car, as they were too deep to repair. Need a full respray down one side. I got a few quotes, but went for Audi body shop. Same price as the independents, but my reason for using Audi body shop was that down the line I may part-ex my car. If the dealership could tell a respray had been carried out, I could then produce an invoice saying Audi body shop and resprayed to Audi standards.

Cost me £1000, as I didn't want to go through insurance. It still pi**es me off to this day.

Cant help but feel sorry for the people who are so jealous they feel the need to damage someone's property, I cant imagine what it would be like to live with that kind malice and bitterness. Must be a chore to even get up in the morning?

Someone keyed my father inlaws Merc the other week over parking, he's flush so just went out and bought a new car and extended their driveway, he also bought an old banger and now leaves it in the space where his got damaged, it hasn't moved for three weeks. Bit overkill if you ask me.

I hope you get your cars back to a condition you are happy with, there's nothing worse than having doubts over colour matching results.

I'm in London. I got a quote from Audi as my car was in for a service and there charging £480 for a full respray of the panel, not too bad. I got a quote from a body shop and it was around a £1000! They tend to work with prestige cars though e.g. Lambos, Bentley's etc.

That's terrible, every panel! I would invest in a dash cam with a parking mode. Catch them in the act and report it to the police and they can pay for the repairs.

Seems to be being left alone now. I am thinking some of the damage was already on the car now and that the dealer did a cover up job on it and some is from work. It was raining all week when I test drove and collected it so it was covered in dirt from the first day I had it but it's definitely had scratches added since then.

Having it machine polished next week, so anything new that appears will be obvious. The spaces at work are tiny (2.1m) and people are just scraping down the sides of it if they park next door in their much older cars. I just need to try and make sure that doesn't happen in the future!
