Has anyone running a stage one tune noticed any clutch clip in high gears? If i go to pull away without changing down, the car accelerates and then boost kicks in and CLUTCH SLIP? i have seen golf r users have had a similar problem? btw I'm manual... hopefully someone will make a performance clutch soon...

TBH every remap I've ever had resulted in some clutch slip on previous manual cars but only when reaching stage 2 tunes. It's what put me off tuning for a while, you can opt to have the torque reduced but once you have had the power its hard to go back to any less. There will be a clutch along soon enough, watch out for winter and the cooler months as mine was always worse due to the car making more power in cooler temps.

Hey, not sure if this is the same but I have been noticing a few things when I am in either 5th or 6th gear and start to gently accelerate without changing down. This morning sitting at 45 in 5th I go to accelerate up to speed limits but when I press the pedal (as normal as i have always done) the rev's would rise up a few hundred really quickly then drop and resume accelerating. Sometimes even a slight hesitation has kicked in.. I am manual trans too so does this sound like clutch slip?

I think it's the height of the torque band that causes it!! My car is going in end of October!!

This is worrying to read! I've never had any problems with any on my remapped cars in the past.

Only had my DTUK box in for a week or so... Should I remove it now before I get to use to the power?! I've not noticed any problems yet.

If your clutch is slipping so soon with no mods surely this could be covered under warranty depending on the mileage?

Two minds what to do now. Someone on another forum has mention there are a few Golf R's suffering with clutches/remaps?

Those with clutch slip and low mileage should deff have a word with their local friendly dealer. Especially if no mods. I would not be happy with clutch problems so early in a cars life. Anyone would think its a Ferrari or Lambo at that rate of clutch slip. Maybe its more of a common problem looking across R forums etc

Those running the DTUK box do not have to run them at the max power ( temptation aside) from what I understand. There are options: They can just lower the + function. You could also move to program 3 or 2 (version V3) as well as lowering the boost down to just 1 if concerned about torque causing clutch problems etc. Power will reduce but it should still be a significant improvement to stock. Ofcourse they can also be removed if still in any doubt. I guess DTUK can offer further assistance to people concerned.

It still amazes me how each car is slightly different with varing degrees of tolerance etc. Maybe in the end its more down to us and how they are driven. Mechanical sympathy etc?

I think my problem was I was driving it like a diesel on a Dtuk box without changing down if I needed to accelerate. So I'd boot it, out of boost range and then when boost kicked in, I got clutch slip... I then dropped my Dtuk box and it's still doing it but not so pronounced. But a car that's only 5 months and has 2000 miles should not be experiencing this!! And I've never launched never tracked etc.

I am driving this car how I have driven every manual car I have owned over the last 10 years.. never had any clutch problems previously and covered over 60k miles alone in my old corsa with no problems at all. Surely tech nowadays should outlast old tech??...

To be honest despite having my DTUK box installed I do not drive the car hard at all. The odd overtake here or there but sustained hard driving is something I very rarely do.

I had the same DTUK box on Mk7 GTI for over 15k miles and did not have one single issue with the clutch, I drove that much the same way as do the S3 so maybe I will be ok!

back on topic.... I would get your car in to the dealers ASAP as I'm sure they will replace it if the mileage is so low.

I agree. On a car with this kind of mileage u should not expect that level of wear. As others have stated I would book it in. There might be something else at fault as well thats putting additional wear on the clutch? You certaiinly have nothing to loose by getting it checked by your local dealer.

I think it is a concern that a stage 1 remap seems to induce slip, realistically this should still be within existing tolerances. I have seen on Revo that they say you need a uprated clutch for Stage 2 and not 1? I would certainly speak to your supplier (Tuning company) and tell them, maybe they might look at the map and redo if custom?

I have run my present car (Octavia vRS) for 5 years (about 40000 miles) with a stage 1 with no problems.

The problem is having a remap will invalidate any warranty should they find out.

I'd be surprised if they cover it under warranty! Clutch went on my dads TTS after a REVO stage 2 had around 3.5k and Audi Bedford refused because the clutch was seen as a consumable!

More 8V clutch woes:
http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/audi-s3-8v-manual-clutch-replacement.254737/

And no, clutch is not covered under warranty:

NOT COVERED:
  • Brake linings and disc pads
  • Clutch release bearings
  • Clutch pressure plates and centre plates
  • Tyres
  • Wiper blades (wiper rubbers have no warranty owing to their conditions of use)
  • Seat and backrest covers
  • Floor coverings
  • Spark plugs
  • Batteries for key fobs and alarms
  • Light bulbs

Not quite 'No Warranty'

Items where the lifetime of the component is or can be influenced by driving style and external factors will only be considered under the terms of the warranty for a period of six months or 6,250 miles (whichever is soonest). Beyond that limit, the defects must be classified as wear and tear and will not be covered by the Audi warranty.

So Audi came of no conclusion and said the car was fine. So I will now have to wait for someone to release a performance clutch and then add one of these.

Coincidence..i just got my car back yesterday from Audi and they too have not been able to diagnose the problem I was having. ;-( I am happy I have it back and pray the problem doesn't happen again. They are sure it isn't clutch but then said it might be the start of it going.. hmm..they just don't know!! .

Yeh the warranty on clutch is obviously useless. So I don't mind voiding my warranty! The clutch is clearly made out of chocolate!!!

Yeh mine doesn't do it when my dtuk box isn't on it. But it's pretty bad when it's on :/ but if you change down before you accelerate you will not experience the problem.

I 1st noticed it this morning when I dropped from 5th to 4th to overtake then it happened through most gears (3rd upward) under acceleration thereafter till I got to work 5 or so mins later.. PITA!!!!!!!!!!!

A question, isn't it normal for the Rev to go up before engaging into a lower gear when you downshift?

Yes but once in that lower gear it isn't normal for the revs to rise very quickly then to drop again very quickly then to rise as normal in sync with engine speed...

This was classic on the 8L S3 when going anywhere near an upgrade to 285bhp and it's not necessarily the friction plate but tired springs in the cover - a new clutch assembly will resolve.

I'm now having this issue after fitting my DTUK and CTS inlet pipe but I'm sure once the car I warmed up after 10-20 mins not as bad.

i was recommend by dtuk to put it on map 3 as the torque curve is more spread out. and it has helped massively.
