S4 Dynamic

This may be a stupid question but when in Dynamic mode does the change to the exhaust do anything but make it louder in the car? The other setting changes make practical sense but I assume the exhaust setting is purely noise and no practical function?
It does sound very nice and when taking a business call it makes people ask what you are driving and not many seem to believe it is an A4, I was just curious if it made any other difference.

It changes the gearbox, suspension, sports diff, steering, throttle response and exhaust into their loudest/sportiest settings.

In dynamic the valves in the exhaust open to make it a bit louder and because it frees up some flow it does seem to feel a little more responsive.
