The strange noise that I started to notice after around 500 miles got a lot louder this week.

When I first heard it, any passengers I asked told me I was imagining it, and it became something I would explore further 'later'.

Anyway, it's now an issue, and someone in the know has diagnosed a wheel bearing failure. Seems crazy on a car that's done less than 1,500 miles. :(

Expecting an interesting conversation when it goes in for repair, as the car is lowered and running non standard alloys.

My uncle has been working for Volkswagen quality management for many years.

About 2 years ago I called him because I had a broken wheel bearing on a car (Audi a3 1.8 2009)which had done 25.000 km.
He told me that wheel bearings are usually made to last an entire car-life.
However he also said there can be some production faults but that's usually something that can easily be fixed.

So I think there isn't that much to worry about .

Also I never heard of any issues concerning the wheel bearing on the s3.
