So,

My car is booked into my local Audi specialist for the following work:

- Engine oil/filter
- Full haldex service (diff/gearbox/transfer box oils + filter)
- Brake fluid change
- Wheel bearing change
- Cam follower change
- Inspection for any other obvious issues, worn suspension parts etc easier to identify when up on a ramp.

As i've mentioned in another thread I suspect my engine thermostat is knackered (needle doesn't get to 90° / no hot air through vents), so if they confirm my suspicions that will be done also.

Seems the thermostat is a bit of a pain to do in terms of component removal etc

Then next month the plan was cambelt kit/water pump and fresh coolant.

My question is, would I be saving labour bundling the cambelt job all into the first visit? I have the money now from sale of my previous car so it's not like i'm waiting on pay day etc.

Also I've read horror stories about oil pick up pipes that I thought could be done as part (kind of) of the oil change, but it looks a nightmare job to get to on the quattro cars? Is this correct?

All advise appreciated!!!

If the money is available then get Audi to do the Cambelt at the same time, they don't charge that much more than a specialist does and you get free MOT's on the car if I recall.

I've read many posts on here that Audi DON'T change the haldex filter as part of the service. Be 100% sure that they are doing this and check the invoice after the job.

Depending on where you are in the U.K., AKS could carry out all this work and you would be sure you car is in the best hands. Awesome or RTech would do a super job too.
I had the pick up done at AKS as part of an oil change service on a fwd TT and so the overall cost was fine.
If you had the thermostat done at the same time as the cambelt you would save on the cost of more coolant.

I trust my local Audi/VW specialist implicitly and what they don't know about VAG group cars isn't worth knowing so the work is definitely being done there.

And I suppose when I think about I had may aswell get the lot done while i've got money burning a hole in my pocket.

I've also ordered Mann air filter/pollen filter/fuel filter aswell as a Genuine Audi Rev G DV which I will be fitting myself hopefully this weekend if they all turn up in time.

Touch wood PCV appears to be functioning ok so won't do that until it's needed.

Anyone got hands on experience of the oil pick up pipe with the S3 8P????????????????????

No hands in experience but I had the oil pick-up change as part of the oil service. They showed me the old item which was full of rubbish - quite surprised for 55k Miles.

I would have the genuine fuel filter as the latest ones have a higher flow rate. I cannot remember the exact figure but on an S3 you want no restriction.
Getting the sump off is only more difficult on a TTS.

Ok I’ll add the genuine fuel filter to the list for the garage and keep the Mann for a spare, probably fits the Mk5 Gti so could use it on the mrs’ car.

That’s what I’m thinking, have it done as part of oil change, I just thought I’d read it was inaccessible on the Quattro cars like S3, I’ll query it tomorrow when I drop my mrs golf off for some suspension work.

This list is growing rapidly hahaha, never mind.. peace of mind with cars like this I find is priceless

1k0201051k is 6.6bar and the mann wk69 is 6.6bar. theyre exactly the same other than manufacturer; the genuine is made by UFI, personally mann>>>ufi.

Fair enough I’ll save a few quid then!

I’ve always found Mann parts to be faultless personally, and I know they make a lot of OEM parts for various manufacturers.

Don’t forget that the manufacturer of genuine parts change regularly, basically who ever can offer the likes of VW, bmw, Ford etc the best deal, so you would think they’d all be made to a particular spec

I’d probably stick with “VW/Audi branded” items for cambelts etc although I’m sure the OE manufacturers products from the likes of Gates, INA etc are more than up to the job

I think the revised fuel.filter is 6.6 bar opposed to 5 bar

Aircon clean and re-gas?
I had mine done last year by F1 auto centre. They had an online offer on and it was a god send during last years relentless heat.

On my list, will be done next month after initial mechanical works are complete.. looking for somewhere local that is trusted doing offers, usually see a few around this time of year!

Funny you should say that, I'm in cheltenham tomorrow in the S3 where there just so happens to be an F1 auto centre with an offer on, aircon clean and regas £69...

The VAG Specialist in Cheltenham is very good, and just around the corner for that F1 Autocentre.
I used them to do my Cambelt/water pump and fuel filter. They were spot on.

Have you been quoted on the haldex full service haldex gearbox and transfer box oils , because i notice clutch slip when im manually changing gears and car doesnt dsg fart as much or as loud its just quite, got quoted just under 500 including parts.
Try to justify if i should do it myself with my mechanic mate in his garage or go to vag specialist and pay 500 -/+

It’s not the gearbox that does the DSG ‘farts’ (I hate that word) - it’s ECU related

My car is a manual gearbox, so it's just drain and refill.. £500 for DSG and haldex service is dealer prices I guess?

Ask them to use OE oil. Seems to be the best to avoid a stiff gear change in the colder weather

You will be wasting your money getting them to change the Haldex oil since they won’t be changing the filter.

They don’t know about the filter, it doesn’t exist in their world.

Seeing as you’re trying to be conservative with the money get this done by someone who knows well the filter needs to be replaced as already mentioned in the thread.

Same said by my local dealer at Rayleigh Audi but the parts man who I get on with well says he can source the filter for me, with my special discount as well.
Main dealers are a strange lot, if the computer says No then that’s it.

Darksidedevelopments sell them as well as eBay I’d abyome else is needing it

Done the oil pick up pipe yesterday, not too bad relatively easy, just a **** ton of bolts holding the sump in 3 in a awkward location where u may have to rotate the torque converter with a screwdriver to find the grove to allow you to put 10mm the socket on the passenger side of the sump, there is also the oil feed to the turbo which you will.see anyway so just unbolt that and movw it of the way as well as 3 black torx bolts to look out for one facing the the front of the engine and 2 on the driver side holding the charge pipes in, still can't believe this car came with a plastic intercooler .

Oil pick is just one bolt make sure you buy a new "O" ring with it the oil pick up, sorry haven't got more picks i was rushing to get it done

I did the pickup pipe a while back. Not that difficult. Be careful of the plastic cover on the chain, I broke mine! Also don't put massive amounts of sealant back on the sump, you dont want any silicon bits floating around in your engine. Here are a few pics of when I did mine.

Cheers for the link but that’s for the gear box, not haldex.

Will bookmark it though for when the dsg needs doing.
