What phone holder do you use in your car? I'm looking for one that doesn't look out of place with the interior if there is one.

Also anyone use the magnetic ones?

Brodit are the best in the business. I had one for the my A3

Er....mine stays in my pocket. I supposed I might want to see it if I used it for nav but the car does all that anyway. What's the benefit of a holder?

As mentioned above, keep it in pocket. Also there is new legislation about using phones while driving, 6 points and £200 fine

Theres a few reason I wanted a holder is I live in a area with rubbish reception so most people use whatsapp to call me and on the MMI it just says Unknown so I don't know who's calling.

Also my phone has some stuff on it which tells me who's calling if it's not a stored number so it would be nice to see if I should accept or reject it lol

My tuning box has what they call the iMode so it's linked to my phone and I can just one click (not holding the phone, easier and less distracting than using any car touch mmi) change to the tuning mode/map that suits me at the time.

Finally when I charge my phone in the armrest I forget it and have to go through the rigmarole off unlocking and locking to get it out when I remember. Also if I put it in my pocket it gets too hot when charging.

On the subject, the car has Mobile telephone preperation - High with Audi Connect, what does this mean and how do I use it?

I saw the Brodit one also.

How does the phone attach to it?

Brodit are definitely the best and my preferred brand but some of the holders are obscenely expensive.

The Schosche Magic Mounts are pretty good too

Well, I have just ordered a Brodit mount with iPhone 7 passive holder for my A7.

Will report back when it's in.

Brodit, had one in my C6 and now have it in my C7 - best thing is to change cars you just buy a new car specific mount, and the expensive bit is the cradle

I find leaving my phone in my pocket causes bluebooth connection issues, keeps dropping out

Also as phone is in a cradle not attached to the windscreen technically you can still interact with it while driving - not that i do, but i do use it daily for TomTom - so need to be able to see the screen

This is a picture of mine, i have since re-routed the cable so that it goes straight back into the centre console rather than down

Will probably order this one tomorrow as it doesn't actually look that bad in your images.

Anyone have any feedback on what the Mobile telephone preperation - High with Audi Connect means and how to use it?

Do you have a sim card slot in the dash?

Audi Connect is the online service and gives you access to internet etc via the car.

Think high basically means you connect via Bluetooth rather than a physical cable

    Whats your MMI version?

Yeah i have a sim card slot. I will have to check the mmi version in the morning.

I read something that it can boost your phone signal but i don't know if thats true or how to do so.

As Rhyso says, it gives you access to Google Maps and the Audi Connect service. In addition to this, it uses the antenna on the roof for signal rather than the phone's internal signal so should be significantly better.

It doesn't boost your actual phone though.

It's the phone-box thing that boosts your signal, I looked at an A7 with that.

The wifi hotspot on mmi connect is awesome though, we use it all the time (3 year old daughter with iPad)

Don't like the google earth nav though, switched that off sharpish.

I have had the google maps and Audi Connect service working by letting Audi use my phone data but didn't like the google maps while driving and couldn't find much use of the audi connect stuff although the petrol prices of near by stations was nice.

I did like the traffic on the maps that was the only feature worth enabling it all for i thought.

How do you enable the car as a wifi and did you just use a data only sim?

    Go into
Telephone > Settings; I think it's under WLAN

Your MMI software needs to be 770 or above to allow you to use both a sim card in the dash slot and then your phone to make / receive calls.

@DJAlix can sort you out new firmware / maps; got my 2017 maps off him :)

    Oh yeah my mmi version:
    20170322_134336.jpg

I'm going to guess everything's well out of date, will they check and update for free when I get a service like Alfa and Ford did?

    Cheers

    Sorry but I LOL'd :D

If you want Audi to update your MMI / maps etc don't expect change from about £400; in fact I got quoted £419 by Cardiff Audi!!!!

Yes that's right.......you pay premium money for a not-so-premium service.

I think it was only FL cars that you got the first few updates free and that was only for the maps I believe. Once they've expired you are on your own.........

:puke2: Jesus thats sickening, I've heard of the Audi option list being expensive but what the heck are they playing at! Updates usually fix issues that aren't intended to be there and every other manufacturer I've used just do a check and update for free while your cars being serviced.

Whats the most recent updates for MMI and maps? and can you get them from ebay and easily install?

Latest MMI is 942 and maps is 6.24 or thereabouts

Like I said earlier, contact @DJAlix and he'll sort it out for you at a fraction of the price :)

Thanks definetly contacting Alix now :)

I do like the brodit slightly better but what i dont like is having to buy the clip then a holder for my phone and a seperate holder for my wifes phone which will cost roughly £65 - £75 to get them.

I think i may try that cd one seems as its not that expensive and if it doesnt work out, bite the bullet with the Brodit. Cheers

Brodit is no good if you have different phones, although they may do a universal cradle I've just never looked

Very impressed with the quality of it, really like it.

Gonna get one for the wife's car too.

They are made to perfectly fit the car, in the A7 it fits to the left of the climate panel.

    Snap fit, took seconds.

With brodit they usually make 2/3 different brackets depending on where you want to mount it

As far as I can see, for the A7 it's just the one above and a console mount.

Well got the Black version of the one that uses the CD slot and it seems secure enough but not tested it long term yet. Not bad looking but need to take your phone out of the holder before retracting the mmi screen or it slightly clunks it if your phones in portrait.

I use the cd mountable one. I find it places the phone at a good height and doesn't interfere with anything. Unnoticeable once phone is mounted too.

    Few years and no issues.
