This could get VW worried! https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/1-series/353176/new-bmw-128ti-prototype-review And:
What's the price difference to the 135? Surely it would have to be cheaper otherwise why would you buy one???
"Add in the fact it will undercut the range-topping M135i by around £6,000, and BMW could be on to a winner. "
The 1 series especially the 135/sportier trims has grown on me now. Didn’t like it when first launched but it’s looking nice now especially in the right colours. This 128 would be a tough sell for folk who just look at monthlies on pcp or lease. The 135 will have higher residuals than the 128 therefore the monthly payments can’t be that far off between them but you get the awd and extra 35bhp with the 135 or am I missing something.
I have been told that if I take my A3 to 200bhp I will/may have wheel spin issues, so how does this car get 256bhp at the front wheels and not cause issues with wheel spin? Is there something to counteract the torque to acheive 256bhp?
^^^^ LSD^^^^ No not the drug. Limited slip differential will stop the wheels spinning. https://www.carthrottle.com/post/5-clever-things-that-stop-highpowered-fwd-cars-from-killing-us/
Ah cool Wish I had some LSD in my car LOL I would get it to 250bhp as well I thought most newer cars had limited slip anyway?
You probably will find a quaiffe torsion diff that fits your car. Most modern lsd is just electronic not mechanical and uses the brakes/abs to control slip. This is a reactive approach as opposed to a proactive approach like a mechanical diff so not as efficient. Makes a hell of a difference in a fwd.
Ah they are only about 600 - 700, I wonder how long it would take for my mechanic to fit it, thats once he sorts my juddering brakes on monday LOL
Would budget for a new clutch and maybe flywheel if you are doing it. Gearbox needs to come out anyway so labour cost will be similar to a clutch job. cornering in a fwd with torsion/lsd is so much better and less likely to understeer. it still isn’t the magic bullet to stop wheel spin when launching as all it will do is spin 2 wheels instead of just one like an open diff.
LSD won't stop wheels spinning completely but can help pulling the car out of corners. This car looks great to me.
BMW are doing some great things this year. Audi have went back and losing a lot of customers with their quite vehicles. Some are listing the M2 M5 Comp one of the greatest BMW ever made.
I agree, the 2021 BMW 2 series coupe look nice as well. My pcp ends next month and I haven't heard a single thing from the dealership I bought it from!!! I'm buying it anyway, but they didn't know that.
I don't really know it does seem an odd one. The 128 with lower kerb weight and lower transmission losses would probably be almost as quick once moving, plus better on fuel and lower annual tax. It almost seems as if there is no point going for the 135 unless you intend to modify it or really do want the 4wd.
I assume the price between both will be so close if it was me I would go for the 135 just because it will be better suited and kitted out for performance??
The 128i is 80kg lighter than the 135i so performance will be similar Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk
Doesn’t exist anymore mate. M140i was 3.0 RWD. New one is M135i and is 4WD. Personally think it will be a bit like a 2.0 TFSI A3 vs. S3. There will likely be some performance and price difference between 128ti (assuming they release, as is only currently prototype) vs. M135i
Coming in Nov apparently https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/first-drive-2021-bmw-1-series-128ti-prototype
Yep Cheshire Oaks Audi are 100% useless. I can be at their dealership in 10 minutes, but if I bought another Audi I'd driver further and either use Crewe, Warrington or Liverpool Audi. Early this year I spoke to the sales manager and told him I'd already had an S3 and an A5 off them and that I wanted a TT black edition, told him all the spec etc and he said he'd get back to me...I'm still waiting!
This is on my radar for sure. I know lots of people think it's an ugly car, but I really like it and the reviews I've seen so far are positive... Roll on November.
