Hi so i'm thinking of buying a front mount intercooler for my audi a4 (B5).
I'm A DIY person so advice on how to fit one of these bad boys would be grateful...;)
I have had a look on flea bay at some intercoolers but realy im unsure:unsure:
if you have some experience in where to buy one and info on how to fit
Please respond !!

I got mine of a mate who got it from ebay for just over £200. Can't fault it really, easy to fit and keeps the inlet charge temps down.

looks very nice fella:icon_thumright:
was their much modding with the front bumper??
do you have a pic with the front bumper cas it look's to me like you loose the fog lamps:(

Despite how it looks mine's a pre-facelift with facelift bits added so no fogs in teh bumper. You could probably retain them though to be fair. I did have to chop the bumper up as the kit did say it wasn't for cars with aircon.

After

Thanks for the response dude:icon_thumright:
ive also just purchased a boost gauge.. now im looking at buying a boost controller so I can adjust wastegate pressure at the turbo to create more boost..is this ok and safe to do??
I do now that some ecu on other cars can adjust how much boost it bleeds off via the waste gate. I was looking at bypassing that to see how much pressure the turbo it self makes with out interference from the ecu. I will do this buy blocking off the factory boost control lines.
has anyone done this before ???

The ecu will just cut the fuel if you try to bypass its boost control system.

If you want more power, get it remapped.

I do believe that is the safety measure the ecu has if the boost is wound up to high. I think this is known as a spike or boost cut and it is their to protect engines.. dependin on weather you have installed a electronic boost controller or a maual boost controller you use the boost gauge to see where the boost cut occurs and adjust the controller accordingly..

Or you get it remapped and enjoy more power with proper factory control over everything...

Why are you trying to bodge it?

Ive seen some nice alloy side mount intercoolers on ebay for circa £100. Claim to be a direct fit, with a thicker better flowing core and ofcourse being all alloy (instead of placcy ends) the thermal efficiency is inherantly better.

I had considered one of these, along with a remap for mine, but from what I have read theres little point with a K03 as you can get all its got to give out of it with just a remap on the stock IC. That said, I expect the stock IC suffers heat soak after a few good blasts which would ofcourse be helped with a better IC.

Depends if his car is a 150 or 180hp model. Most B5's are 150, only TQS's got the 180hp engine.

the turbo will do about 190ish, so plenty to be gained from a 150 model, but marginal gains for a 180 (though midrange torque would be much improved so its probably still worth doing)

mid range would benefit form the IC or remap? I'm still planning the map, but undecided about the IC.

Remap is what i meant.

Remap makes the biggest difference to normal driving, because lets face it, a squirt of power to overtake someones useful, more cooling so you can drive flat out for long(er) periods of time before heatsoaking is typically less useful.

Gotcha.

Its all about the power delivery and useable grunt.

very sorry for late reply I have a 180 Quattro sport

well what i said above still applies, you need a remap if you want more boost. However the turbo is so small you will not see a huge increase in top end power, you'll get a nice torque hike in the midrange though.

so do you think that an intercooler and remap are pointless???

Depends what you want from the car?

Remap will give you a much improved midrange, but the turbo cant really do much more than 190hp or so, so you wont really gain much top end. It will certainly make the car better to drive.

Intercooler will help as a general component, but it'll make far less of a difference than the remap.

Thanks for the advice!! What would a remap cost ?? In all honesty i thort it would hit the 200 bhp mark i take it a lot more is needed to achieve this !

You'll get close with an intercooler and a good map from someone like RTech that knows these ECU's well.

More than that needs a bigger turbo. You really need to set yourself a target and work towards it. Theres no point wasting money remapping the car with the stock turbo if your then going to replace it with a bigger one in 3 months time...

original plans were a intercooler a remap by Courtney turbo specialists. i was then going to try and find somewhere to recon my wheels. i heard that the wheels on the 180 Quattro only came with them. Mine are starting to flake off in places :(

I'd be fairly surprised if Courteney have the kit and knowledge to map these older A4 ECU's. They're not flashable like most modern cars, and Courteney typically deal with vauxhalls.

You need to find someone thats skilled in tuning these older cable throttle VAG cars. Many tuners that claim to be able to either make a hash job, or just use some off-the-shelf program.

RTech are well known for doing great things with these M3.8 ECU's, as are Unicorn.

What i will say though, is please be sure you'll be happy with <200hp before you go down this route. IF you wont, its far more sensible to hold off on the remap, get a bigger turbo sorted out, THEN get it tuned to suit. Otherwise its money down the drain.

Sounds good TURBO YODA:thumbsup: Thing is where would be the best place to get one??(Uprated turbo). Do you think someone would have one on here??

I live in Lincolnshire I only know of Courtney because of my old GSI V6..

Beachbuggy on here does a range of upgraded turbos. He also has a facebook page if you search for beach buggy turbos.

RTech is in Leicester, not tooo far away from you.

well this guy does not respond to msgs on facebook !!!

Sorry been at work a lot just lately!! I DID MSG YOU FELLA I don't use facebook I think its crap.
Could you help me thaen mr beachbuggy
