My rear bearings are noisy , I am sure they need changing , anyone got a idea of a price fitted ?

To be honest not sure , apart from the noise ,is it a case of jacking the car up checking for play ?

I guess you could do that, check to see if you have a wobbly tyre or tyres and compare this with the play in the fronts. If you can't notice a difference, it may be best to get them checked at your local garage.

How much would I be looking at paying at a garage for a pair fitted ?

Most wheel bearings these days get noisy rather than exhibit play. Jack the car up and spin the wheel listening for the usual dry/whirring noise. It should be completely silent when turning (light brake pad scrape aside)

Check as well that your tyres are ok. I was all set out to buy replacement bearings for my old TDI but turned out that the tyres had twisted and were causing noise due to bumps in the tyre - cheap nasty BCT tyres (never again)
