i have MMI basic plus, i have to keep the disk in the head unit is there anyway of adding a hard drive or any other idea so i can use my CD player again ?

Yes I do have dual sim

I believe you can copy the maps to an SD card which should free up the CD drive. Alternative would be to fit a CD changer but this will be a couple of hundred quid.
