ME7.5 ECU info

Thought I would share......

I bought a wide-band me7.5 from a 2001 passat 1.8t to use as a spare ecu.

Reason I bought the passat ecu is that they are cheap on eBay and my thinking was its me7.5 and my S3 is me7.5, so in theory the passat ecu should work in my S3 after reflash.

I bought that ecu for $20.

I proceeded to get the ecu into bootmode and flashed my S3 eeprom to the passat ecu using nefmoto eeprom software.

Then tried to use the nefmoto me7 ecu flasher to flash my S3 .bin file to the passat ecu but it was not happy and I could get the file to load. Something about security settings not met, not sure what that meant as my s3 has immo disabled.

So I used galleto, in boot mode to flash the S3 file to the passat ecu and all went well.

My S3 is now running with a passat ecu. Only issue I found with the passat ecu, is that there is no sealant around the edges of the ecu housing. I bit of silicone is needed to seal the housing after you have finished with bootmode.

So in theory all 1.8t vag cars with me7.5 ecu's should be able to work in a S3/TT/A3 etc, providing the eeprom and .bin file is flashed correctly to the ecu.

Whilst you are correct , unfortunately not all me7.5 are compatible even with eeprom copied.

You've got lucky with that passat as the later ones arent the same as the earlier ones. The a4 BFB/BEX and later passat are different and wont work with other me7.5 software as the processor is different.

From experience if you have a me7.5 in an s3 or tt then the 032hn ecu is the best one to use and cheap. 032hn,018cb,018h,018bh are identical

Thanks for the info @beachbuggy

I assumed the ecu XXX 906 018 XX would have the same electronics as its a pretty common number between different model cars.
Now I'm wondering if a me7.5 ecu with XXX 906 018 XX or a XXX 906 032 XX from a jetta/golf/beetle 2.0 N/A would work after a eeprom & .bin flash.

The below ecu is from a beetle 2.0 n/a XXX 906 032 XX

This one is from a jetta 2.0 n/a - XX 906 032 XX
me7.5 906032xx jetta 2.0.JPG

and then the different version that @beachbuggy mentioned - XXX 909 518 XX - which wont work with the eeprom flash.

I will look for a cheap 906 018 / 906 302 - 2.0 n/a ecu and test my theory :)

Na ecu wont work as they dont have n75 circuitry etc..

518al is the version that wont work . Others such as AS and A and AA might work as they are the earlier versions.

Surely if the internals of the ecu are different the Bosch part number will be different I'm not on about the vag part number I mean the Bosch number

Main difference in me7.5 is coil drivers. Hence why 032hj and hn arent compatible with each other

A4/passat 2004 onwards have a different processor.

018cb BAM ecu is about £150
032hn AUM ecu is about £30

Both identical...

HN/HJ coils however are the same?
Yes you are correct, but the actual coil drivers in the HJ are different and hence why on some early HJ ecu if you run ALS/NLS you'll burn out coils quicker than you can replace them...

Sorry to bump an old topic, im replacing a damaged ecu, same part and hardware numbers, but the bosch software numbers are different. I was going to reflash the new ecu with the old ecu's tune file. Will it work?

If it's the same part number then I'm sure you are good to go.
You will need to flash the eeprom if you have an active immobiliser as well as the remapped file.
