I'm part of two man team maintain all the computers, servers, laptops, printers, scanners, software and any other crap they want to give to maintain, run, fix, look after and so on.
Which is fine, apart from nothing happening at the moment its a enjoyable job at times.
I moved in to this team from another IT team after a staffing shuffle.
I'm the only guy on base who has admin rights on the two net works and able to support both at the same time.
But i'm after 8 months in this roll i'm starting to get really annoyed with the other guy (Who is also my supervisor/team leader of one). I swear he has no idea how to solve issues or fix any thing. He asks for help and advice but pays no attention to it, even though its correct and would save him days of hassel.
He's doing a skanders (Urban Dictionary: skanders).
we've been given a batch of new laptops that locked down and encrypted for security reasons, which is a pain in the *** for us and our main use of them. But in his attempt to remove this he started playing about with bios, instead of changing the settings one at a time (not that i know why he's in bios when its the harddrives thats encripted) and testing he changed every thing and then tested.
Laptop would not boot. so he said its dead, put it away and got another one.
Did exactly the same thing to this one. all this time he's asking questions and i'm giving answers but he carrys on. he left the laptop on the side saying its dead, he walked off to get another one.
I walked over and changed the settings back and said its working. explained to him what I did and he changed the others back and proceding to rebuilding them.
he's now trying to install the wireless drivers but can't do it, he's blaming bios settings but they are enabled in the bios and thats not even locked down..............O wait, he's rebuilding the laptop cause he can't see the settings in bios.
all the PC's, laptops and servers he rebuild are done with out images. so there no set standard of builds for out kit. nothing is the same apart from the PCs name and passwords (Which is his name).
Makes my life a pain in the *** trying to fix a fault. I spent a day and produced two images for 2 of our most popular machines, all works fine, set up to the correct standards and makes building a PC or laptop so much quicker. But no, he wont use it cause he likes sitting in front of a PC for hours with a stack of CDs and paper work. he builds every thing on 19" widescreen monitors, most of our monitors are 19" square. we have loads of fun when installing new PCs, all the resolutions are out of sync.
I now refuse to build any thing or install any new bits of kit.
Many other stories but I feel better now, so i'll leave them.
O yeah, the 2 networks on base are joining to make one big net work and the IT teams are merging together (I'm going back to my old team) and he's going in to 3rd line and i'm be stuck at 2nd line.
I'm going to go play AMA on 5foot screen, I might feel better.
