intermittent steering symbol on dash after new battery

I've recently replaced my battery.
since, I've had an intermittent issue with the steering symbol popping up on my dash (on start up the car beeps 3 times)

I've had the car plugged in to vcds by a mechanic who reset the light, but a few days later it has reappeared.

I've also tried the steering angle procedure, still no luck!

Sometimes the steering gets really heavy???
