I guess you must be refering to dsg or manual.
I suppose its down to the type of driving you do. If you do much town driving then I suppose dsg makes sense. I've not driven dsg myself but have heard it's very good and very smooth but the only downside is that it can feel a bit automated and lacking in driver involvement.
Perhaps the answer is to try and get a test drive in both and see what you think?

Thanks to above, The garage with the S4 would not give me good p/x .
So Ive ended up with a 07 plate A6 2.7 Q with 2 pages of extras , far from a S4 I know , But I wanted a 4 wheel drive , I pick it up 12th dec, I know it will be better than my remapped E60 535 m sport in the wet and snow , ice ect,

Good choice, however wide tyres are still a pain in the snow.
No comparison with the Beemer anyway.
I went VW Golf 2.8 v6 - to - BMW 130 M sport - and seriously regretted the decision.
After 10 months moved to Audi A4 2.0T FSi quattro.
Now considering keeping the Audi forever, it it's that good!
