Guys, what do you think of these small mods? A3 2.0TDI

Hi all,

My first post here, I have a A3 Sportback 2.0TDI Sport 140 in Dolphin Grey and I'm looking at the following mods (I've read through the stickies which are useful but wanted to know about a couple of specifics):

I have the ABT front spoiler already installed and have my rear windows tinted.

Can any of you guys offer any advice on the mods above (anything I should be aware of, any negatives)

You should tell them yes. You are required to or they may not cover you in the event of a crash.

I agree that tint may not be so noticeable but too dark could attract the wrong sort of attention :busted_cop:

I have the same or simmilar lights installed on mine, but I refuse to wire up the halos. Personal prefference, just not a fan of how the aftermarket ones look.

Just to give you a heads up, if you get those lights, you WILL need to tap the halos into a separate power supply. These housings are not completely plug'n'play whatever the seller tells you. I have never seen one that did not have to be spliced. That includes the new LED, immitation A5 lights.

Here is another one for ya' ...

That tint may be just a bit darker than the gunsmoke... but you get the idea. It was nice when I first got it... but started to wear a bit thin after a while. At this point I am thinking of getting the '09 style LED tails and just putting the Lamin-X smoke film on them.

I couldn't see that on the site - is it just software, or are they uprating hardware too? I'm asuming the difference between a factory 140 and 170 isn't just a map?

It may be just a re-map... mine is the 2.0T petrol engine and it went from about 200 to 252bhp and 303lb or torque with just the APR software. or at least that's the numbers that APR claims for stock car running the 93octane software. Going to hopefully get it on the Dyno next sunday and find out for sure.


...and D3mon if you are wanting the RNS-E later than check out this classified. The email I got from him is 1399 USD shipped to Canada for a 2009 build unit. Brand new, with warranty and with the 08+ chrome dials. Definitely looking at getting it next month probably.

Gryphon your car looks immense, great combination of mods.

OP: I would definatley declare the map, IMO it is just not worth giving an insurance company a way out of paying. This is down to a personal choice of course.

i would inform the insurance, if you were to have an accident and they found out it was re mapped then they dont have to pay out. i dont think it is worth the risk, id rather pay a bit more knowing im covered!

if you get 'tint' for the front lights, buy from the UK site, and get something like the 12" by 24" x2 so you will have a little bit left over, and this left over film you can put on your rear light just to see what it is like, if there is not much difference then you know to get the 'gunsmoke'

Thanks for the replies fellas (and link to the lights staz) will speak to my insurance about the mods after all, I'm undecided on the lights at the moment but gixxer600k4, think I'll take your advice on the tint, nice one.

that front splitter has been sprayed very well! cant see any 'orange peel' looks very tidy mate! you getting some alloys for her and then lower it slightly!

Cheers man ,will get some alloys at some point but I can't really lower it any further due to how low the front end is now I've had the spoiler fitted, its already been shaved by the damn speed bumps! Votex sideskirt and rear are next exteriors in line I think.

When I called them to enquire the first time they told me they won't even need to open the car up, so by that I'd say its purely software?

I'm having some sideskirts and a rear spoiler fitted next week so the wheels I've got are going to look even smaller...so i found a few pics of whats caught my eye and stuck them on to give me a better idea, I'm looking at 3 sets at the moment that I can buy, what do you think?
