first service ££££

I've just booked our car in at Glasgow Audi for it's first oil change and service. The lady on the phone asked me the mileage, which is just over 18.5k and said "Oh, that's the first major service then with the pollen filter, that'll be £397." I must admit, this seems a lot, especially looking at some of the other prices paid in this thread. I'm also a little confused that the first ever service is a major one. Don't get me wrong, it's getting done because it needs doing, it's just that the price seems a little skewed to me. Thoughts?
Is getting the car done at an Audi garage important to you? If not why don't you go to an independent garage it's going to be a lot cheaper for you..Providing they use Audi approved oil and parts it will not effect your warranty..If the car is yours and you plan on selling it on after a couple of years then you might want to consider staying with a main dealer as it always reflects well when you have 'full dealer history'..If you have the car on pcp and have no intention on keeping it and move on to another car then it makes financial sense to take it to an independent..Just my opinion of course...:friends:

Alternatively, why not just get a quote from your local independent, and then get your Audi dealer to 'price match' their quote, which is exactly what I did last week, and saved myself £148!!

To bring this up to date, Glasgow Audi matched the quote I got from Glasgow VW, saving me over £150. There was a bit of quibbling from GA about whether GVW would be using genuine Audi parts but, in the end, I got the two Service Managers emailing eachother and it was all sorted out.

Regarding the service itself, I can't fault it. From the bloke on the gate with a clipboard who knew we were coming, to the valet parking, the comprehensive checksheet we receievd that appears to go into more detail than an MOT and even details the millimetric where across three points of all five tyres, the complimentary wash and hoover... it was all very slick and we were certainly made to feel like valued customers.

@pburv , yes the car is our own and will be for a good many years. We're 18 months into a 60 month HP package and intend to keep it for at least 10 years, possibly longer. Having it serviced at Audi was important to us as we didn't want to risk compromising the warranty or service history in any way. The VW garage would have serviced perfectly well, I know, using all the right parts, but they wouldn't be able to enter the service on Audi's electronic service database and we didn't want that to potentially cause issues in years to come.

Lol guys why don't you just go to Audi specialist (independent) garages?

Genuine parts (so OEM), way less money to pay AND you preserve your warranty!

I can't understand why some people pay £200 just because it's an Audi chain garage.

Edit: Some beat me to it :p

i work for a main dealer and i can get genuine parts at trade price.
it would take me 5 minutes to make a quote from work.

i.e

oil
filters
at trade + 10% (its a work rule for invoices)
Plus hour labour, at staff rate £35 to carry out the service

do you think that my audi dealership would match that?

knowing full well that ill do it myself, so there would be no labour charge and no +10% on parts.

my local Audi and i get along rather well now, I'm sure they would do me a good price if i asked regardless, but we all like to know how far we can push it.

First service due according to DIS, mileage is 15k and car is almost 2 years old. I did my own interim oil change at 8k miles and 12 months old.
I just called 4 Audi dealerships (different franchises) in my area and all quoted between £270-300.
This is for an inspection service, oil change and pollen filter.

Local well respected VW independent will do the same for £125 using genuine parts!

Now to decide what to spend that other £150 on :)

The main stipulations seem to be that the quote to be matched is from a VAT-registered garage within 15 miles of the Audi dealer, is for a like-for-like service (I can scan my checksheet and post it up if you like) and the written quote specifically lists each part and the oil to be used, individually and by Audi part number.

Pretty much an identical scenario to mine then. Get a quote from the VW dealer and have your car serviced at Audi but for a VW price. :salute:

@Relliott6879
Il be using Glasgow Audi for my service to in a couple of months. What price did you end up paying for them to do the service?

"Get a quote from the VW dealer and have your car serviced at Audi but for a VW price."

But you're wasting the time of the independents, who are giving a good deal and service, only to give the job to Audi who were trying to rip you off in the first place.
Independents often give better service and are passionate about what they do, so give the business to them.

It wasn't an independent, it was a VW main dealer. I was open and honest with them from the very start, making myself perfectly clear that I was after a quote to take to Audi. If they felt I was wasting their time then I'm sure they would have told me so.

That's fair enough - your intentions were made clear at the outset

My point was really against Audi, in that they'll only price match if another garage, independent or otherwise, spends time giving a written quote itemising the details of parts to be used. Only then will they do the same price and won't better it to get the business.
They just need to be a bit more competitive in the first instance.
In fact, I wouldn't be against paying a premium for Audi to do the servicing but a 216% more in my case is a bit too much to justify.

A FASH doesn't concern me as long as I know the cars been looked after correctly and on time. I won't sell for a good many years (10 or more) as this is the daily driver and paying the extra for Audi stamps won't mean much come sale time.

I'll agree it's different if you buy and sell more regularly, as it may well affect your resale value.

Why are the prices varying ? I thought Audi had transparent service costs for max. 2ltr cars... I've not owned a car for more than a year (since 2008) so this is the first time I've had to get one done.. Which is happening Tuesday

^ Those prices are for cars over 3 years old.

If your car is younger than 3 years old, obviously the servicing is *much* more involved, so warrants a *much* greater price :p

Mines getting its first oil change/service in early May.

Aberdeen Audi - £185. - the car will have done maybe 5000 miles by then.

I asked about the price if I supplied my own oil ..... £105.

So Ive bought 5 ltrs of Castrol Edge 5w30 longlife oil on ebay for £35. Saved myself £45 all told.

So the car is saying it will need an oil change in 11k miles but that you'll need to go back for a service only 300 miles afterwards???

I would expect that at the next oil change/inspection (whichever comes first) they will combine/do both at the same time and reset both if you catch my drift? After very recently having its first oil change my car is now saying something similar to the car you've quoted above but the other way around, mine has a big difference in the mileages for oil change and inspection, but the times due being different by only 30 days between the 2, so I expect they will do an inspection and also change the oil and reset both on the mmi.

Is that the total sump capacity for the car do you know? You in an S3?

Dunno.

Rang them up and asked what oil I needed and how much.

They told me 5ltrs of 5w30 long life fully synthetic, so thats what theyre getting!

Inchcape? Manchester? Where did u got ur service done then? £386 seems a lot of money just for an oil change interim service..

How the hell do you manage prices like that? Best offer for tyres I've ever had from my dealer was over £40 per corner more than my usual tyre place, so went there instead!
