Hi All,

I have an S3 8V & I feel like my 4WD isn't working, even though I just had a complete Haldex flush & service. I seem to get a lot of front wheel spin & can't seem to get the rears to engage. My question for you all is, do you have this same experience? My current thoughts are either:

• Knackered clutch pack (hopefully not).
• Poor front tyres from running with a clogged Haldex for so long.
• It only works in certain circumstances, which I'm not sure about hence why I'm asking you lot!

Any advice would be great. Feels like a standard A3 with a bigger engine at the moment.

Your haldex pump could be knackered after being clogged up. Sometimes cleaning it and the filter/gauss doesn’t fix it if it’s been clogged for ages.
unless you doing something stupid the haldex normally reacts before front will start to spin unlike older generations of haldex where the front needs to spin before the rear engages.
Im sure someone more knowledgeable than me will give a better answer

Have you access to a ramp? Get it up on the ramp, start the car and drive - you will soon see if the rear wheels are turning or not

Who did your "flush?" Was the pump removed and gauze cleaned? Do you know if the pump was reset/primed via VCDS/Vagcom?

A VAG specialist did it, they removed the gauze & flushed the whole system before putting new oil in. A pretty thorough job. I've got it booked in with them just to do a visual inspection (on the ramp like you suggested) so we'll see. They'll also pressure test it to see if maybe the pump is dead. Annoying as I'd hoped they'd test the pump while flushing.
